Guys I don’t know what to do.
Currently I have a 15 Pro 128 GB natural titanium.

Got tired of the color (I don’t use covers) of my 15P.
And really need the 6.3” display and 256GB.

I was expecting to upgrade to a 17P.
But the colors aren’t convincing for me, the orange looks cool but I feel like I will get tired about it in a couple of months.

I actually prefer the colors of the standard 17.

Do you think it’s worth to upgrade from a 15 pro to a 17 in its standard version, given the improvements it received especially on the display?

Cameras are a secondary aspect for me.

There’s nearly a 400€ difference between the standard and the Pro.

I’m facing the same decision for the same reasons: bigger screen, lighter weight, way more battery life, black color. That’s a lot of benefit for giving up 3x zoom while also saving $300/400€ if you don’t need ProRAW/ProRes recording.

After owning almost always Pro models the last year's I'll downgrade to a 17. I can't justify spending 350€ more for some camera features I rarely use. But yeah that is my personal use case, I don't need the best camera when I don't use it daily or just to make sometimes pictures of a dog or a flower or something.

I’ve got a iPhone 15Pro and to be honest it doesn’t make sense to get a Pro again. The price difference between the 17Pro and the 17 is $600AUD or 35% more, and that’s just crazy.

Previously I felt the difference between the regular iPhone and the Pro was more significant, but now that difference has narrowed considerably and does not warrant the extra cost.

Indeed...the difference between the 12 and the 12 PM was enormous.
Between 15 and 15P still detectable.
Now it really doesn't make any sense...if they made proper colors I would be considering that, but with all it's been said on this thread, i'm really leaning towards the sage 17.

The 17 does seem like the best option for the majority of people, especially with the screen size and storage bump with no price increase (or a price decrease if you follow Apple's logic that the Pro model hasn't had a price increase as the 256 GB model has always been $1099).

The Pro model is pretty much actually aimed at professionals now - those that need their phones to have more CPU/GPU power (extra cores, additional cache), record (and transfer via cables) "content" for their livlihoods.

For me, it is coming down to that extra pricing, now $300, being purely for the telephoto lens.

Keep in mind 17 has a smaller main sensor than 15 Pro. You’re getting a bigger display at the expense of photo quality (both main and telephoto).
I'm confused. Aren't both cameras now 48 mb? I tend to upgrade every 2 years. I have the 15 pro mainly because it had a better camera combined with 120 hz compared to the 15 base. Was considering moving to the 17 base this year but don't want to lose the ability to take high quality pics of my 5 year old. I'm not a photographer so just trying to understand your statement and how the cameras would compare.

The resolution is the same 48 megapixels. The size of the sensor refers to the actual physical dimensions (measured in tenths of an inch) of the sensor. Larger sensors typically let it more light so they can be a little better at capturing the details in lower light situations without needing to turn on night mode.

I’m not a professional photographer at all so someone correct me if I’m wrong but that’s my understanding. In terms of light captured and image clarity the pro’s are still better than the base though the resolution is the same. How much that matters is up for you to decide.

Looking at doing the same thing. My 15 Pro is 256 GB, but I don’t really take advantage of the “Pro” features. Now that the 17 has ProMotion, I feel like switching wouldn’t even be a real downgrade- it covers everything I actually use. The extra battery life is also tempting. I’m on Xfinity Mobile, so if they roll out a trade-in promo that makes the swap close to even, I’ll probably go for it. That said, I do really like the blue titanium on my 15 Pro- though honestly, it hasn’t felt quite as premium as my old 13 Pro did. That steel hit different.

My only worry would be if they do the 17 like they did the 15. The 15 didn't get 8gb of ram and the next year they said ohh you have to have 8gb of ram to get apple intelligence. The fact that the air and pros all have 12 gb of ram would have me worried about getting a phone with 8gb if youre planning to keep it for more than 1 year. Not sure what feature will use that much ram but its possible the 17 wont be able to do something next year because of it.

I have the 15 Pro as well, I like it, but the random heat issues are annoying (seemingly when I'm doing nothing particularly CPU intensive), battery health has degraded way faster than on previous iPhones, and the weight of a Pro phone is starting to become a nuisance with some work-related RSI that I have. The only reason I've been using Pro phones is the 120Hz screen anyway - I rarely make use of the non-main cameras or any other Pro feature.

I keep flip-flopping on the base 17 in purple vs the Air in blue... Weight is a big issue for me, and the 17 is only 10g lighter vs 22g lighter on the Air. But I'm concerned about the lack of second speaker and the potential for thermal issues on the Air due to how much is crammed in that camera 'plateau'. But the bigger screen would be nice, the design of the Air is lovely, and the 12GB RAM might come in handy for future features.

Can someone share what exactly am I missing out on by going with the base model vs pro? The telephoto lens, slightly better CPU and what else?

I'm going from the 16 PM to the vanilla 17. I'm getting the folding iPhone next year, so really I'm willing to sacrifice a worse camera knowing I'm upgrading in a year.

If I were not upgrading in a year, I'd get the 17 Pro.

From what I've been reading, the base 17 only comes with 8GB RAM, yes? If so, and if you're someone looking to play with 'Apple Intelligence' you might struggle under some more intensive activities once (er, if) it finally rolls out in force.

I've got a 15Pro and the 17 base looks like a decent upgrade.

On their store the 17 is even advertised for Apple intelligence. So I doubt next year they randomly remove it.

same decision.

15p to 17 standard.

I have/had PRO model only for 120hz and AOD.

What exactly are the upgrades in 17 from 15p/16p?

Regarding the 2x zoom, does the 48MP sensor really do a good job? All other features are excellent for the base version.
