Exactly, it's a shame Jobs has become so incredibly serious as time as gone by.

It's AT&T's fault that Apple has to pull all the tethering apps from the App Store. Apple wanted tethering included in the $30 a month unlimited data plan, but of course that would cause problems with AT&T's network.

And it's Apple's fault for partnering with AT&T and letting them call the shots. Don't absolve Apple of these things. Why on earth should customers be making up excuses for a company?

And to save AT&T going mental they roll that out worldwide?

Doubt it....Apple make a good chunk from people foolish enough to pay for tethering on top of their already premium price!

Nice of the guy to sacrifice his dev account for the good of the colony lol

Exactly. And for what? He violated the developer terms which means Apple won't pay him for these "sales" and they'll probably kick him out of the developer program (which costs $100/yr) so he will actually lose money on this deal.

Maybe his dev accout was about to expire :p

Whoever said "Geohot the Diva" made me LOL literally...

Agreed, but if you think it would have been any different with another US-based carrier, you're wrong.

I can only hope that the iPhone moves to both Verizon, T-Mobile and any other carrier in the very near future. It'll get people to leave the network in droves, which should free up some of the congestion in larger metro areas. Also, it'll show all the people who are proclaiming AT&T the new evil incarnate company that Verizon and the others are no different. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending AT&T in the least; quite the contrary, but to say that the other companies are more altruistic than AT&T is a mistake at best.

Mom, is that you?

Are you kidding me? The kid's a 15 year old with giant stones, putting himself out there to make a point. Kid's a minor hero, as far as I'm concerned.

Who else were they going to partner with? Verizon said "no thanks" because they didn't want to implement Visual Voicemail. The two options were AT&T and Verizon, and Apple went with the carrier who was willing to work with them on their vision. Despite what you seem to think, you can't release a working cellular phone that isn't on a cellular network. Sometimes you gotta play ball with companies who aren't ideal partners.

I got it, but you're not missing anything. It's a pain in the a$$ to use. I will still get MiWi and GLADLY pay an extra $10 for it.

I agree MyWi is better and easier to use, but until a jailbreak, this is the way to go.
And, sure, the first (and, the second in my case!) time setting it up took a couple of minutes but it is a snap now and really takes about 20 seconds to get it going. If I simply left my computer on it probably wouldn't even take that.

So, they should have partnered with Verizon and let them call the shots? Wow! Oh, and do you really think AT&T is calling the shots here?
They do have some leverage in the situation. Why would Apple not want tethering applications?

First, there are two other major options besides AT&T and Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Second, you guys are way off base if you think Apple even had to partner. They could have just made an unlocked phone.

You can't be serious. You actually think AT&T is calling the shots? Did you even own a cell phone before the iPhone? Or did Mommy think you were too young?

Back in the day, the carriers called ALL the shots, and the phone manufacturers played along. You really should at least try to educate yourself before giving such an ill-informed opinion.

So who do you think they should have partnered with? Verizon turned Apple down because they wanted to stick to the old way of the carrier having full control including using their own "app store" and deciding what apps can be on the phone.

Apple went with the only carrier that was willing to take a chance changing the old way of doing things in the phone industry.

Well that was rude. Why will Apple not let tethering applications into the store?

 And they still have a say in what a phone can do. I think you have some reading comprehension issues.

Can you people not read? I never said they had to partner with anyone!

That's a total of five people completely misrepresenting my opinion in the most moronic way. Good job, guys.
