wrong... if they take preorders at 7am est that means people on the west coast would have to be awake at 4am for a chance to get one.

You act like if they don't get on right at 4am they won't get one. They won't be gone even by the end of the week. They may cut off preorders at some point and not guarantee delivery by the 24th, but aside from that all will be fine.

Yeah, last year they took pre-orders for up to 3 days before launch day for delivery on that day. This year it might be shorter, but it sure as heck won't be the same day or even the following. So this rush everyone is in is unnecessary.

I agree with you.

FWIW, my local AT&T store told me pre-orders on their website start at 4am est.

Credible reports (Digitimes) indicate they will be making 3,000,000 per month, having learned from the iPad shortages.

I know we won't know for sure until tomorrow, but FWIW, I just got off the phone with an AT&T rep -- I had some other billing questions (unrelated to the iPhone pre-order), but after the rep was done answering my questions, I did ask about what time the pre-order will start and the rep said "Let me see -- I have a memo here on that -- let me check. It will start at 7 a.m. Central Time".

It sounded convincing that the rep was actually referencing an internal memo, so I guess we shall see.
