Ohhh how I would kill for my new i7 to be 2560x1600. I have my 24" LED Cinema Display plugged into it, and I really love the extra on the bottom. There's simply no reason for 16:9 displays to exist for computer use. You know it's because people complained about the black bars when watching 16:9 material on their 16:10 displays... *sigh* 2560x1600 is ALWAYS better than 2560x1440. ALWAYS!

    Mini-rant over. :D

To each their own I guess. Coming from a 16:10 24" iMac I personally haven't regretted the move to the 16:9 i7 one bit and wouldn't ever want to go back to that now seemingly puny 24" screen again. lol

And yes, I love watching movies on the i7 but the black bars never much bothered me. The 27" iMacs have 240 more vertical pixels than the 24" (1920x1200) did. Is it really that much of an inconvenience for you to get your computing work done with the wider screen? ;)

I totally love the new 16:9 change too. True, its very ideal for movie viewing, but I also prefer and appreciate the even wider view for work as well.

I recall reading the LCD makers started moving to 16:9 panels as they were cheaper to produce the 16:10 panels. I can only assume as the same production line can produce TV and Monitor panels. If this is the case the main reason I can see doing this for the iMac is that this is the route the LCD industry is taking.
