16 inch M1PRO is too cold

I heat up my room turning my Intel Mac on. Doesn't take long. After a while I must open a window though.

currently 59F, outside - 21F. Icy cold palm rest. The keyboard is comfortable tho 🙂

Lol, where do you live my dude! I know what you mean about the computer being cold, but I can't say I've felt it when it's THAT cold.

Haha... from where I live, it's 29'C right now. Yes, in November. And therefore the M1 Pro is running at 47'C as reported by TG Pro, but with the fans still off. Fortunately, it's going to get 10'C lower later today.

Sad to hear that heating function is missing on the new MacBook Pro, which was my one of favorite features on my Intel 16”. It was very useful especially in winter seasons.

You must live near me! In November, it gets to about 17'C overnight, and in January, about as low as it will ever get is 11'C. (OP probably thinking this is super hot)

Is there a Mac app that would heat up a MacBook Air to keep me warm?

Answer (1 of 4): If you absolutely need to turn up the heat on a computer there are a few go to options that generally don't fail. Prime95 is generally the #1 tool to use and since a MBA doesn't have a GPU for you to heat up, there's really no need to supplement it with something like Heaven Ben...

Really amazing. Actually this is just to report how cool these machines are. My old MBP runs warm that I bought a laptop stand with a fan 😎... May have to get a portable heater now haha.. Kidding

But I miss the warmness when it is winter. lol

Yeah, I'm thinking about just running some dummy Handbrake encodes in the background to just warm the M1Max up to the level of what the i9 was at idle. 🙂

I get this with my intel macbook pro at boot up when it’s cold here. I just run a round of cinebench to warm it up a little. I think the new ones are more efficient though so I doubt that trick would work.

Also, try putting it on the stove for a few secs. That's sure to work. Be careful, or you might end up with smth like this.

For me though, my MacBook Pro 13” M1 can run warm enough if something is happening in the background eating away CPU cycles. I somehow make it happen and tbh it is not super impressive for sustained mid to high performance applications.
Maybe M2 will do better. We will see.

I just experienced a strange sensation (coming from Intel). I sat in a library with the MBP on my lap and under an air conditioning vent blasting cold air. The Mac got cold and actually dissipated heat from my lap, which in turn made me feel even colder. Brrr!
