Hey guys,

I bought a baseline MBP 14" yesterday from apple. I have been swithering about return due to the few hundred notes extra that costs when direct from apple, and the screen size..

I have just ordered a "like new" 16 inch from amazon, so basically brand new, for a great price.. the issue is the screen..

I will not be using this for portability, just around the house hence interested in the 16 inch. how is the screen? is it the same as the latest M5 model as this screen is gorgeous..

its slightly older, a M4 Pro chip but with 24gb RAM compared to my current 16gb RAM..

As its Amazon I have the return period but snapped up the 16 inch as there was only one left, and the "brand new" version was about £400 more!

thanks for reading!

All screens are similar and great. 250+ PPI retina, MiniLED with sufficent zones (afaik 2554 for the 16" model) and hence minimal blooming, great contrast, colors and brightness. No PWM (15KHz is not noticeable), no burn-in risk. The only weakness are the rather poor reaction times of >40ms but during normal use you will barely notice, and 120Hz helps to reduce that effect.

The only technical differences over time:
- M3 models got higher SDR (600nits vs 500nits)
- M4 models got 1000nits SDR (outside) + Nanotexture option + quantum dot (basically not noticeable)

M5 uses the same panel as the M4 models, and 14" and 16" are also exactly the same.

I love my 16" M1 Max screen. If you mainly use it in your house (like me), having that extra size + the better speakers, cooling and battery, is certainly noticeable. I still carry it around now and then, but not to a Starbucks cafe, for example.
