Greetings All,
I received my 16" MacBook Pro (2.4Ghz i9, 64Gb Memory, 8Tb Storage, 8Gb 5500M) late yesterday and I am in the process of configuring it. I have noticed an interesting anomaly which I suspect is a function of my external display setup, but my exact setup worked on my 2019 configured MacBook Pro (Catalina as well); I am unsure why it does not work on my new 16" MacBook Pro.
I drive four 31" Apple Cinema HD monitors.
I drive two monitors off the right USB C port, through an HDMI splitter, to two HDMI to mini display port adapters.
I drive the second two monitors from the left USB C port, through a Caldigit TS3+ USB C output, through an HDMI splitter, to two HDMI to mini display port adapters.
This setup has worked perfectly for two years on a 2018 MacBook Pro, and two 2019 MacBook Pro computers.
If I boot the new 16" up in this configuration, everything works perfectly until the power saver shuts down my external displays. When this happens, the external displays will not wake up. I have to open the computer from clamshell mode, shut it down, and restart it... then everything works perfectly again.
I have extended the monitor power shut down time to avoid this issue while I am working, and I will perform a few other tests, but I am a bit stumped as to why this is happening. I will update this thread as soon as I determine what the problem is. I may need to call Apple to get the issue resolved.
Interestingly, I thought I read about someone else having this issue with the new MacBook Pro, but I'll be damned if I can find the thread.
Standby for more.
Joe
