Rumors floating around that Apple will be using Mini LED Display next year for the 16" Macbook Pro.

Early adopters, what are your thoughts?

If this happens the price will likely go up, or it'll be an optional upgrade. Can't imagine Apple will absorb the increased manufacturing cost.

What's the point in upgrading to mini-led without resolution enhancement?
Led would be more harmful than lcd for eyes.
Take iPhone 11 as an example, it looks great, nothing less than pro's oled screen.
At least this is my feeling

Maybe, I mean, we hear rumours of iPhones switching to USB-C since 3 years - and it didn't happen. Mini-LED didn't really seems to be worth a wait - at least for me. They are not as good as OLED (and at this point) still very expensive.

Whats resolution got to do with it?

Emmmmm, the difference between miniLED and the current panels is the size of the backlight LEDs, you just get more dimming zones, the rest is exactly the same.

OLED blows (any current available) LCD out of the water, watching HDR in the dark is a whole different experience.

miniLED is a poormans OLED, it gets closer to OLED, but not completely. And it's cheeper to produce. The only thing it's has going for it, is burn-in.

I hope we get OLED. I don't think burn in will be an issue.

It happens less often now, but it definitely still is an existing issue. One report i saw not long ago claimed the whole reason Apple isn't doing OLED on Macbooks is specifically because they don't want to deal with the potential burn in issues. They don't trust it long term on their computers. It's easier to avoid the problem on a phone which i believe is why they were quicker to jump to OLED on their phones. Plus, MiniLED is a perfectly viable alternative, similar to QLED on tvs has proved a great alternative option to OLED. It provides almost all of the same benefits as OLED. You still get greatly expanded contrast ratios compared to traditional LCD (but a bit less than OLED), more colors, HDR, higher resolution and all that, but while also not having to deal with the potential for burn in.

All the current laptops have battery issues with their OLED screens, most likely due to the gpu pushing 4K. I'm loving my 16inch i9 mbp. I'm sure they'll update to higher refresh rate panel even going from 60 to 100 would be awesome. Either way, Apple is on the right track, looking forward to what they do next, going to hold out for 4-5 years with this badboy.
