Hi there, thinking about purchasing a base model 16" Macbook Pro now and upgrading to the Arm model next year. I searched everywhere and I cannot find a price as to how much Apple will give me for a base model 16" Macbook Pro on trade in. Can anyone give me an estimate or post what you were offered here? Thanks!

Hard to estimate what the trade-in value will be in the future. The trade-in values on computers fluctuate a lot even on a monthly basis. Add to this a major change like switching processor architecture.

I can say that when I got my 2019 16" MBP I traded in my 2018 15" MBP. I paid $2499 for it and got $1400 on trade-in from Apple. I had checked with 3rd parties and the highest offer was $1475. This was close to Apple's offer, so I took Apple's since the trade/purchase was easier.

I've been thinking of doing Apple's trade in program as well. When I googled them it seems a lot of people get quoted a price and then once they send the computer in, the company finds a reason to signigicatly devalue it. Like from $1000 offer to $200 offer. Was your comptuer in mint condition?

I traded in a clean 2016 15. Full spec. They offered 1200. When the 3rd party company Apple uses (Phobios) came back after inspection they said 200 bucks. They claim under UV light the screen showed it started delaminating. You can't see it with your naked eye. I told them to send it back and I sold it on ebay for 1450 in 1 day. It took 3 weeks for them to send it back to me. I was not able to get a person on phone because the hold was too long. Beware.

I got exactly what was quoted. I tend to keep my computers in good condition. These always have few, if any, wear marks and are scratch-free since they live in cases a lot. I also keep all of the boxes, even the plastic wraps, keyboard/screen separator film, etc. So when I send in a system it looks close to a new or refub condition. First impression matter!

Nice! Wow, hard to go wrong with a MacBook these days, given what you can get back for it when you want to upgrade. I took the plunge on the base model 16" and I have to say I really like it. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do actually. The Touch Bar isn't even an issue for me, I don't mind it. Never the less, will be looking at getting the arm model in a year or two, can't beat Apple's trade in program!

I don't know the price for the base model, but Apple is only giving about 1560 for the fully loaded model before the 5600. Which costs over 4k initially, so trading in with Apple is usually a bad deal. You can sell it for more elsewhere easily. You can look up trade in prices on apples website.

Keep the box, keep it nice, sell it used. The secondary market for MacBook pros has historically been strong.

Alternatively buy a used one now. If you select a 2018/2019 15” model it will be decently discounted but still an excel machine that you should be able to sell for close to what you paid for it in a year or two from now.

I had a MacBook air 2015. I bought it for a vacation off ebay for 325. About 1 year ago. I sold it 4 months ago for 450. I looked again for air prices this week and they went up even more.
