I'm cheap - I have been reusing my 2011 27" Apple Thunderbolt LED display back from the 2012 Mac Mini, recently with the 2012 Macbook Pro, and now with my 16" MBP with TB3-TB2 adapter.

I love it!

Thanks for the monitor info. Had a quick look at the 31” 4K Eizo and see what you mean, even more expensive than the computer! o_O Can’t believe its the only 4k option they do?

The Benq SW321C Pro does look like a nice monitor (thanks @Roc1). Uniformity adjusted like the Eizo’s, 99% aRGB and 16 bit LUT. Not a proper 4K panel but half the cost of the 31” Eizo. Any experience of these?
No worries. Think the Benq's are being released end of March so they tell me.

I guess I'm dumb, but for me, "the best desktop solution"... is to buy "a desktop".
A 2018 Mini i7/16gb/500gb SSD might hit the spot.
Less money, too.
macmini is so limited on GPU, that effectively it is a half of laptop :D

Been doing some research on the Benq SW321C and it seems like the reason why the Eizo is so much more expensive is Benq are bending the facts about the spec of this monitor. Its advertised as a 10 Bit panel but it is in fact an 8 Bit + FRC panel which is inferior to the Eizo's true 10 bit. On top of that its UHD and not proper DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution.

If that matters is down to personal preference and budget but I think its important information to know when purchasing a high end monitor.
