Just picked up my 16" MBP. Upgraded model, 2.4G/32GB/2TB/5500M w/8GB.

All seems well. But then today as I started using it I discovered that the case where my right hand (palm) rests, started making a "tick" creaking sounds. It seems to come and go. The more I rest my right palm on the case, the more likely it seems to return.

Ugh.

Does anyone else have this issue? Will such issues subside as time goes? Or is it a replace-now type of situation?

Thanks.

Don't have it on my 16", but did have that issue on the right palm rest of my 2019 15.4" MBP. Pressing down lightly would give a bit of a creak.

Didn't really bother me at the time, so didn't get it replaced, but I guess if it bothers you enough it's fair to say it's not a standard feature and you might want to get it swapped out.

You could try to fix the bottom plate of your MBP with P5 screwdriver.
Can this void the warranty, even if accidentally? I realize I am just tightening it, but dont want to take any choices.

It's a bummer if I have to return it because it is perfect in every other way...

Thanks for that. I am OCD so this is bound to drive me nuts - if not now, soon. I can try the P5 trick another poster mentioned but not sure if it will help.

If I am to get it replaced, do I just get an appointment with Apple genius bar or should I start a return on apple.com?

(I have a 2014 rMBP 15.4" and it doesnt do this)

Personally if within the 14 day return period, I'd simply just do a return rather than a warranty claim via the Genius Bar (unless it's possible they can fix it with the screwdriver) .

I am planning to call them tomorrow and if they have one in stock I am going to do an exchange. My config is the "high end" config they have been selling in stores so hopefully they do have one on hand for an exchange.

Also - if I am exchanging, do I need to wipe the machine clean before taking it into the store? Or let them do it after wards? I didnt copy any new data into the machine, but I did install all the tools I needed (XCode, edge browser, lastpass, parallels, etc.)

Hello man, I'm using the same Mac as you. Just bought it two weeks ago and I'm getting an awkward "ticking" sound like you. It's happening when I put my hand on my Mac and pushing so little with my left or right hand on both sides near to track pad. I guess it's very similar with your issue. How did you fix that ? Did you send your Mac to Apple I wondered. Thanks bro have a nice day.
