Huh, woke up this morning and my 16" MBP is completely dead. Purchased ~July 6th, 2020, 1 year old.Have done all the various power buttons, smc resets and such.

Talked with Apple, going to have a call this afternoon.

Anyone else had something similar? Any other tips?

Could it be the power supply? I had an issue where I plugged so many items into the same socket extender that there was no longer enough power to charge the battery of the laptop.

Sorry to hear about your issue. I had the same problem 3 weeks ago. I had a 4-month-old laptop (16 inches, i9, 64Gb RAM). As usual in the morning, I opened and started reading e-mails. There was a woosh sound and the screen went blank. Spent a few hours and then gave up. It was a work laptop so got a replacement.

It was very odd though. I tried all the usual things but nothing worked.

OP:

Did they accept it as "a warranty repair"?
Seeing as how it's "just out" of the warranty period?

I called Apple support and it was under warranty but as it was my work laptop I did not worry about it. It is very odd that this is my second MPB that had issues. I had to deal with similar issues with my 15-inch MBP about a year and a half ago.

Noooooope :( 20 days out of warranty. $750 estimated to fix.

Thank goodness for purchasing it on my Amex card...doubles the warranty to 2 years.
