I have to express my utmost disappointment, as well as an important PSA for those who are wanting to upgrade to 16 PRO MAX.

After watching the disassembly video for both pro and pro max, only the pro has the metal battery (see image above on left side) while the pro max has the usual black plastic foil battery (see image above on right side , same material as usual)

What the hell apple? Why are pro maxes being shortchanged ? What’s the rationale being this ? Why not metal casing for both PRO & PRO MAXES?

It’s a whopping 3500 MAH OF PRO versus 4600 MAH of pro max ! I ain’t upgrading to 16 pro for that 1100 MAH battery capacity less despite it is more “premium” built with metal casing.

I’d just keep to my 15 plus I guess and let’s see what crap apple churns out next year. Well I suppose it’d be 48mp for the 5x tele lens and the same black foil plastic material battery without metal case.

What’s your thoughts on this ?

This one is a mystery, I just got back from the Apple Store and spent about 20 minutes using a 16 pro max to take some pictures and video and it got pretty warm in my hand. This is in an air conditioned Apple Store at night, will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Does the newer metal battery tech (in 16 Pro) degrade the same or less than the older battery tech (in 16 Pro Max)?

Since I bent a 5c battery just a little bit when I wanted to remove it. I have very much respect for batteries without hard casing. And that one was much smaller and empty/almost dead.

Pro Max has a bigger thermal envelope due to the increased dimensions.

I doubt its cost-cutting/shortchanging, considering every other component is basically identical.
I am confused about the OP’s statement because in the video the man is only showing the regular 15 pro and 16 pro phones
He has not opened the 16 Pro Max yet so there’s no way to find out.

It’s the first picture that’s 16 procmax

Well the battery and the phone doesn’t perform better so…..what’s the benefit if the pro max had a metal battery? More weight? I don’t get it.
Imagine you buy a Tesla and the interior seat is low quality fabric while others is leather. Same function and car still drives but the quality is just different……

You literally don’t interact touch or see the battery in any way. Comparing that to a car seat is ridiculous.

A better analogy would be more like an aluminum vs a carbon fiber intake tube in the engine compartment that you can’t see with the hood open that otherwise has zero performance implications other than maybe 21oz of weight difference.

Mine ran on the warm side for several hours after start-up. Today, roughly 16 hours later, it is running cool - by feel, the same as the 15PM I gave back to Apple yesterday. It's possible that those phones were warm only because they were still doing a lot of internal housekeeping.

And then…. From ifixit showing normal iPhone 16 and 16 plus battery test down

Shows that they have the new “easy” electrical battery removal with new mechanism.

In summary,
iPhone 16 and 16 plus: has new battery mechanism and design
iPhone 16 pro: has new metal battery casing
iPhone 16 pro max: same old black foil as 15 pro max.

16 pro max is indeed shortchanged this year.

This is a troll thread right? Pedantic sarcasm?

Cause if not, I demand people in here research that they used the same Ti alloy in the 16 Pmax the 15, and that all of the anodizing was in Taiwan and not in China.

I mean if the % of Ti or the grade is even 1% off I’m sending my phone back!!!

I want to know where the screen was produced and by who!!!

Totally missed this info in the reviews I’ve watched so far. Wish the PM had the newer battery especially at the premium cost Apple charges over the Pro. Thanks for the info.

More like, you buy a Tesla and the battery is wrapped in something you don’t expect. Which has zero to do with anything.

It costs Apple a pretty penny to put this metal casing on the pro battery… The reason there was no need to put the casing on the pro max battery is because the pro max’s form factor is a decent size larger than the pro and the heat dissipation ability is not nearly as concerning as it has much more space to dissipate throughout the phone. The point of the casing is to protect the battery from heat.

Really though.. come on be happy the pro got something exclusive. Out of all four of the phones, I feel like the pro was kind of the one out of place this year. I love mine. I need my 120 Hz….I need my extra GPU core because I’m a big-time gamer…and I need the smaller size because of its comfortability.
