I went into settings , display and brightness, and turned off ( always on display) . That seems to have helped a lot. Fixed the wifes iPhone 16 pro also.

Great! I ended up returning and getting a new unit and it has worked flawlessly with the same charger and phone settings. I also did not have AOD or StandBy enabled on either of my phones FWIW, so maybe there are multiple possible causes for the issue?

It does suck to have to turn off AOD/StandBy for it to charge overnight though.
