Is anyone else having the issue that the iPhone 16 Pro unlocks itself in your pocket?

I noticed it a couple of times before that I would take my 16 Pro out of my pocket and it would be a couple of steps deep in the calendar or contacts or photos app.

Yesterday I was on a hike and it literally happened every time I put it in my pocket. I would watch my phone being locked, putting it in my pocket locked, taking it out of my pocket a couple of minutes later and it’s unlocked.

I turned off allow Face ID with mask, I don’t recall it happening since, so maybe that was it. But it’s starting to get real annoying.

Do you have the unlock with apple watch turned on?

I've had the issue where the phone is actually not locking itself properly, rather than unlocking. It's very sporadic but has happened a few times over the last week. I'm pretty sure its a software bug - but I haven't nailed down what is causing it...

Happening all the time. Pretty sure it doesn't lock, rather than it unlocking. You can reproduce it by locking and moving the phone quickly downward at the same time. It's super annoying.

I don't have an Apple Watch, so that couldn't be it.

This is definitely part of the problem yes. Locking the phone while moving it downwards towards your pocket seems to not work very often. Seems like a software issue related to the power button.

However I did a test (with witnesses 😄) where I locked the phone, showed it to my friends, then put it in my pocket while it was still locked and even then it happened that the calendar app was open 3 or 4 screens deep. It gave a good laugh, but yeah, not good obviously.

In the mean time - just turn off the phone. It doesn’t take long to start up.
When an iPhone is on in a pocket, all sorts of bad things things can happen.
Apps can get deleted- along with all the data they may contain. Lost forever.
It’s happened to me before.

Seems to be happening to me too, I find the phone unlocked when I go to pick it up. I don’t think it’s locking itself when I click the button.

It’s not that it’s unlocking in your pocket, it’s that it wasn’t locked in the first place. I was running into this issue a lot when I first got my 16 pro max. After a while I suspected this was what was happening and started paying closer attention and saw it happen many times where I’m definitely pressing the lock button and feel it click, but the phone doesn’t lock. At this point I’ve kinda gotten used to making sure it’s locked before putting it away, but every now and then I still forget and press without looking and find I didn’t actually lock the phone.

I’m finding I’m knocking the camera button a lot if my hands are in my pockets or when I put the phone away. I’m constantly pulling the phone out in camera mode and the phone is super hot. Never had to manage my phone charge like this before.

You can go into Settings and change it so it takes a double-click to activate the Camera Control.

Weird - I've never had my 16 pro not lock after clicking the lock button. Nor have I ever taken the phone out of my pocket and had it already be unlocked.

And yes - that camera button was SOO annoying until I changed it to a double-click. I was accidentally clicking it very often - like half the time I picked up my phone from a table.

It’s still happening for me, a little less than before but still. Did anyone have this issue and upgraded to 18.1 yet?

This happens me to now almost daily. Pull out the phone from pocket and it’s the middle of a spotlight search with keyboard open and sometimes even a prompt that says “undo delete” so I wonder how much stuff I’ve deleted from this haha
