I posted this to the Mac Mini news post from earlier but thought it would be helpfult o start a new thread too.... BestBuy has the 15" Macbook Pro Retina for $1259 Retail stores must be clearing out Apple computers across the board for a major refresh before back to school... Got one...

Just bought one from the Burbank store. Was waiting for the 13 inch Haswell. Is this a good deal?

Actually it's a clearance item, not open box, which implies that it is new...weird

Kinda suspicious, you'd think if they were trying to get rid of the inventory it would be available in more stores and online...

I may buy one to hold myself over until Haswell then break even on the sale...
 
I was considering getting a 2.6/512/8gb ram model. The lowest price I could find was $2019 at Apple (refurb, tax not included) and $2150 (b&h, no tax in my state).

Saw this thread so I looked around at stores near me to see what they had. After digging around I found the model I was looking for, at a store somewhat far away (about 40 mins drive one way), at an amazing deal at $1499.99 (which is $1642 with tax --if you want to include gas it is probably $1665ish). If you use the $1665 cost, it is $485 off from the second cheapest price (B&H).

However I am a bit skeptical...it seems odd that it would be this cheap. Does anybody know for a fact that these are indeed brand new, can be returned, and have apple's full 1 year warranty?

I'm also intrested why they are clearance. It seems pretty much certain that the haswell update will be in mid september or later. Maybe it's because they are the older (June 2012) versions so they are "outdated"?
 
First time owner here...

I got one in baton rouge and have the 2nd one ordered and holding for my pickup tomorrow. I saw this deal earlier and ordered. 5 canceled orders later I at least have 1. be sure to go into the store. They are canceling online orders for this pro and both the 13" and 11" air models. They will be gone fast. My local store has a couple of each left.

Yes they are brand new and can be returned within 15 days according to the receipt. I am sitting with mine here still sealed.

Did they cancel your order after the store had confirmed they had one available for pickup?

EDIT: I ordered online and won't be able to pick it up for a few days. They said they are holding it till early August sometime.

Just grabbed a new one from Best Buy for $1159 plus tax. They applied the student promotion (extra 100 off) which they should not because it excludes open box and clearance but the manager was nice so YMMV.
 
Is this an in store special only? I can't find it online. Can anyone share the link?

I called and the person was no use. Ordered on website-order canceled
Currently heading to a closer store, so they can directly contact the store and confirm avaliablity
 
Just ordered "Apple® - MacBook Pro® with Retina Display - 15.4" Display - 8GB Memory - 512GB Flash Storage" for $1,499 + tax. Costs after taxes is about as much a refurbished base 15" rMBP. $1,000 savings! No idea what's going on.

I had to search about 10 BB stores in the SF bay area.
