The Scanner is "sort of" wireless. It allows you to connect to the scanner via an IOS device and scan. However, for a desktop or laptop to scan, they have to be connected via a USB. Scanning is good but this is definitely a niggle.

However, last week, I was delighted to get a new software/firmware update which allows a wireless connection between the IX500 and my laptop ... good bye USB cable!!

I downloaded, installed and configured the new software to my wireless network. Went flawlessly.

Disconnected my USB cable and great. The Snapscan manager logo had a little wireless symbol on it ... I started scanning wirelessly ... no problems. It ran perfectly.
The problem comes when either the IX500 goes to sleep or when I shut down my laptop. When I bring everything backup, the Snapscan blue wireless light turns on but my snapscan logo is greyed out and it doesn't know that there is a scanner on my network. When I try and configure using Snapscan Wireless Tool is doesn't see a scanner on the wireless network. Incidentally, IOS do see the scanner wirelessly.

The only way the scanner gets recognized is if I connect via USB cable. after the wireless is set up, I can disconnect the USB cable. Kinda defeats the purpose.

My set up is an Apple MAcBook Pro running OSX 10.8.4. I am running a 802.11n network.

Can any other IX500/MAc user confirm this use case? I'm trying to debug whether this a a set up issue or is it a scanner software bug.

I just got the ix500 and checked this out on my MBP 10.8.4.

With the scanner awake (the light is blue) and my MBP asleep, if I wake my MBP the ScanSnap Manager icon goes from gray to colored with the wireless symbol.

With my MBP awake and the scanner asleep, if I wake the scanner I did have to click the ScanSnap dock icon to get it to recognize the wireless connection.

In neither instance did I have to reconnect the USB cable. I'll keep testing as I use it and let you know if anything changes.

Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like something is wrong with my setup.

Think I''ll try an unistall/install path.

Solved

Hi Guys,
I spoke to Fujitsu support. Easy answer. By clicking on the Scan icon whilst holding the control key, a new dialog window appears. One of the selections is connect by wifi.

I suppose next time, my first port of call is RTFM ;-)
