16GB Discontinued or $$ Lowered???

With the 64GB Prototype Model being leaked (if presumed real), could that mean the 16GB would be discontinued in the next generation iPhone or after???
Or could that mean Apple may be planning to lower the price of the 16GB Model?

As in, The 64GB Model would take over the price of the 32GB Model (meaning the 32GB would lower to $199) and the 16GB would either lower to $99 (Previous Gen-iPhone w/8GB = $49?) or The 16GB would discontinue the same way 4GB & 8GB Model discontinued from the main model of that year.

Then comes the more likely result from Apple, with the 64GB being $399

What do you think

iPhone 5 (64GB) - $299
iPhone 5 (32GB) - $199
iPhone 4 (16GB) - $49 or $99
iPhone 4 (32GB) - Discontinued

Also, please point out the last time Apple has raised the price for a new model of an iPod or iPhone. I'll wait.

iPhone 5, 64GB ($399)
iPhone 5, 32GB ($299)
iPhone 5, 16GB ($199)
iPhone 4, 8GB ($099)

Or they might do what was said above. 8GB is rather small, especially with all of the space iOS takes.

Summer 2009 when the 3rd gen iPod touch was released, the 8GB model went down to $199. Last summer, the 4th gen went back up to $229.

Now, I know you could argue that the 3rd gen 8GB model wasn't a true 3rd gen, but you asked for an example and that's one I could think of.

With the first gen iPod Touch - I think a few months later, they announced a larger capacity 1st generation iPod Touch, and they just made it $100 more.

This thread has me recall my first iPhone 2G what with a whole 4GB of space! Could barely load half my music at the time.

Still have that iPhone as it makes me grateful for how far we've progressed.

Can you imagine what the next five years will present?
Mind boggling.

Also think back 10 years ago when a hard disk on a computer was like 8 gb. Man times have changed. I bought a desk top 4 years ago and it came with 120 gb of storage! My new MacBook Pro has 500 GB. Its amazing the way things have progressed.

Almost scary.

 There are no Iphone4 8gb so I doubt that will happen
there was an 8GB 3gs so it was easy.

I think the 16GB will be the bargain and then the 32 and 64 the top phone.

Also Apple may introduce the 5 with bigger screen and then the rumored smaller body by Oct or so ( my guess)

There never was an 8GB 3GS until the iPhone 4 came out, the same thing can happen to the iPhone 4 when the next gen iPhone comes out

The 4 is easily 4 times as powerful as my first computer for college; 6GB hard drive, 64MB Ram, something like a 450 processor....

I hope they have a 64gb iPhone this year. Something tells me it won't be till next year though..

This phone doesn't exist....

The 8GB 3GS came out when the iPhone 4 came out. There was never a 8GB 3GS until then. I am assuming the same would happen

He is saying thats what apple could do once the 5 comes out...like they did with the 3GS

+1

So true. My first PC (a desktop) in 2002 had a 40gb HD. When I wanted to upgrade it the cost was about $1/GB.

My first Mac in 2006 had an 80gb HD.

My one month old 3gs iPhone, also my first iPhone, only has 8GB but it cost only $49. Perhaps they will make a iPhone 4 with only 8Gb for only $49 in about six month once the iPhone 5 starts shipping. For people like myself, the price point did the trick to make me move to a smart phone - which turned out to be the coolest gadget I have ever owned in the last 50+ years :D
