I've got a LOT of music but no videos. Right now, I would assume that I would use most of my space for music and apps. I'd never really considered videos but the thought does intrigue me. On average, how much space does a movie take up?

Depends entirely on the compression, movie length, and original file size.

You can get a 1080p movie to 4GB without any massive change in quality. 720p would be about 2-3GB, and then a DVD is generally around 1.1GB.

Movies go from 1.2GB up to 1.5GB (the ones I've got) Of course it might be more if the movie is longer with high quality.

Just a line of thought for the value conscious:

16GB of MLC Flash memory costs around $18. So Apple is charging you $100 (+ tax) for $18. As you can see, Apple makes a lot more money off the 32GB that it does off the 16.

If you are value conscious, you will prefer the 16GB knowing you are getting better bang for the buck.

But then if you need that additional 16GB, the price/value argument is moot.

I'd go for the 32 if the extra $100 isn't a big deal. It may seem like the 16 will be more than enough, but I always figure you can never have TOO much memory (well, unless your memory is encased in a Seagate 1.5TB external hard drive that dies and basically kills your entire media library like mine did late last week....thank God I had most of my favorite stuff on my iPhone so I was able to at least copy THAT back onto my computer. Good Lord, that was a long digression.)

Anyway, go for the 32. :D

we share similar stories. Go for the 32

Holy crap! That means that Apple is charging over TWO HUNDRED dollars extra for the base 16 gig model - given the cost of a 16GB flash card.

Hmm ... clearly the only option is to get a 4GB phone.

(or, put another way, it only costs $100 to double your phone ;))

I really dislike these threads. It is based on your needs/wants, not ours.

But, I'll put my opinion here. 16GB is fine for me since I have less than 1000 songs and about 5 movies. I mainly text and web browse.

I'm so glad I returned my 16 for a 32 I already have 10gb of apps on my phone
