My guess is the 16gb option will finally go away in the next models. If it doesn't I'll be pretty disappointed..

I started with a 16. That quickly became an apparently bad decision lol. I went with the 64GB. That seems a comfort spot for me. I have 47GB available.

Of course on here people are going to say to go for the bigger one, we are tech people. I went with 16 and don't have any problems, just used for some apps, everything else is cloud stuff.

It is a brilliantly viable lineup. People like my mother continue to buy the 16 GB model, while many other users need to spring for more space. Whereas resentment was fostering over having to pay $100 to get to 32 GB (a mere additional 16 GB), the removal of 32 GB and realignment of making 64 GB the $100 upgrade means that people are going to make that upgrade and not feel resentful over it. If Apple made 32 GB the base model, fewer people would be inclined to spend the extra $100.

I see what you're saying, and from a marketing standpoint, it IS a brilliant product line-for Apple. I wouldn't get the 16GB myself, because in my experience(having had 2 of them previously)I will have to shuffle and/or delete apps to keep the items I want.

On the other hand, getting a 64GB for $599 instead of $699 made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Ultimately, it's a trade off. For me, it works out well.

get at least the 64GB model. As everyone else pointed out 16GB will run out quick. You will constantly have to be looking at what you have so you won't run out. I got the iPad when it first came out and got 32GB right away. 2 years later I won an iPad 3 from work with 16GB, boy that was a pain because overtime I wanted to get a new app or something I had to delete something else. I did not keep that one long, instead getting an iPad 4 with 64GB and Cellular. That was great, and just last month I got the iPad Air 2, 128GB and Cellular. But between 16 or 64, go with the 64. 16GB these days is just impractical and I was quite surprised Apple still offers it.

I'll use the 64GB model I have to store movies so that I don't have to use wifi to stream the movies. Other than that, some productivity apps and games. 64GB was a no-brainer for me.

i got the 128gb air 2 and realize i probably wont even use 32gb. you just never know when your needs will change so i figured better be safe than sorry

I would agree with takeshi74, I've always recommend, when asked about the amount of memory to get in any device, to get the maximum amount that you can afford. You will always get your money back when you sell it, and the extra memory is there for you to use if needed.

As the old timers used to say, "Its better to have and not want, then to want and not have."

Well, then.. If all you plan to do is those things, then a 64GB is overkill. I understand the 64GB is a no brainer, but the problem is paying for an extra 100 bucks when it's unnecessary.

I have the 6 Plus 64GB & Air 2 16 GB.. And the 16GB serves me just well on my iPad.

I feel similarly. I have a 6 Plus 64GB and Mini at 16GB. My next iPad (either an Air or Air 2) will be 16GB. I don't install as many apps on my tablet as I do my phone and I don't tend to put any photos or music on my tablet. MAYBE the occasional video, but I mainly read ebooks and browse on it. Okay, and I play Candy Crush. Shhh.

I have an Air 1 16GB with 10GB available. It uses IOS 8 and I have six apps, Safari, calendars, mail, iBooks, podcasts. I don't store videos or photos. I use it strictly for web browsing and Netflix/YouTube. I purposely didn't get 32GB because I typiclaly upgrade my devices every two years. Next upgrade cycle I'll probably get the new MacBook air retina instead of an iPad.

I ended up with the 16gb as the 64 was sold out here at the time and I was impatient.

EDIT - After a few days with the 16 we decided to return it and get the 128gb. There is a certain luxury to having a capacity so large you never have to worry about it. As well although it is more expensive, the 128 represents more bang for your buck in terms of storage.

Also this new iPad has a better screen than the first one so there are certainly noticeable variations in the panels they are using.

All my iPhones, my iPad 2, and my current iPad Air have never been more than 16 gigs. Never had a space issue, and I sync gigs of music on spotify. If I have a space issue, I do 60 seconds of house cleaning on spotiify, and my fios internet re syncs everything in minutes.

I will never get 32 or more unless the price is really, really good. I think saving money means more than having to take a few minutes to keep your device clean.

I don't like to clean. I think about stuff I've had years ago, and look for it and it's still there. I like that. I'll never get less than 64 in the future. My 32gb devices only have enough room left to upgrade without deleting my world.

I've never considered historical data being on an iPad. That doesn't make much sense to me. Historical data for me goes on a real computer and cloud backups. For a device with such limited space, why would you waste it with data you rarely touch? That's what the cloud is for. Dropbox, Drive, and Apple Cloud work great in this situation.

I'm not talking about historical data. The cloud takes care of that kind of stuff for me, but I have had older apps that have given way to newer more powerful apps with better ui's but still like to go back into them to see what I was doing a few years back and to re-play the games that no longer are my main interest that's all.
I guess wasting space is a matter of perspective. I don't consider it wasted, but each to his own.
