I don't feel like I will put any music on there...mostly apps, games, books etc...maybe even some movies for travel...plus I doubt ill use any Pages/Numbers etc...but who knows what I'll put on it seeing as it'll be my first

Ended up calling Apple and asking the sales dudes what they thought - of course they wanted me to buy a 64gb, but his argument was good enough for me to bump up to 32GB. I want this thing to last as long as possible, so I figured more storage would help with that. My iPhone is 32GB and I only have about 5GB left, assuming the same will happen with the iPad lol

This is how I see it, if you are going to spend $499 and have doubts on sufficient room for your needs, why not an extra $100 for piece of mind:D

I sold my 16gb iPad mini. Today I picked up a 32gb iPad air. A simple restore and I'm using 18gb. With the increase in resolution my photos take up a ton more space. I'd suggest at the very least 32gb, more if you're going to put any kinds of media or games on it.

Another 1st time iPad owner who had no clue what size to get.

After reading way too many posts here, checking the size of apps and guessing what I think I'll put on it, I went 32gb. I was tempted to go 64 but decided just go with 32gb and see how I end up using it. My music will stay on my iPhone 5. For the Air, I can always storage manage or use iCoud. Worse case scenario, I sell it down the road and upgrade. But I think 32gb will be fine for me.

The one thing I did know, was no way on the 16gb. The iOS eats up gigs right off the bat and apps are getting bigger all the time. Like many here, I think the 16gb sized iPad's days are numbered.

Ended up getting the 16...if I find I need any more space I'll exchange it in a few days, but I think this will be ok

32 for sure, the apps are taking more and more storage. For better value I'd go with 64, 128 is too much for me.

Here are my thought for 16g vs 32g:

16g
16g is easier to turn over, if you're planning to upgrade every year this is the one to go.
16g has the worst value of all model in term of cost/ storage.
If you have decent data plan or you stream everything through wifi.
Wifi hard drive is an add on device to consider for video storage, but doesn't work very well.

32g or over
If you plan to store pod casts, musics, videos and magazines
If you are a heavy app user, and you don't want to constantly installing and deleting

16 GB means you practically get only 13-14 GB. The OS takes its fair share, and 1 GB is counted as 10^9 bytes, not 2^30 bytes. You may still have plenty of space (depending on intended use), but if you're not aware of what I just wrote, then there's a high risk you'll get buyer's remorse the first time you connect your iPad to iTunes. I've seen it before. It happened to "a friend of mine".

Basically take it back while you can and just save if you have to. The base model should really be 32GB.

I had an iPad 3 with 32gb but I never went over 16gb so I went with a 16gb. I did go 32gb on my phone since I use it for music/pictures/videos.

At the time that happened to me, it was with an iPhone. I learned a few things about content management the next 2 years, though. Now I have a SGS4 with a 64 GB micro SD card, and I paid less than fifty bucks for that card.

But for those who only use their iPad for streaming, web surfing and ebooks, it's hard to justify the upgrade to 32 GB.

Streaming only and ebooks only is no fun.

I have always been an 8 or 16 Gigs type buyer. But I've found myself juggling photos on the iPhone and apps on the iPad2, way too much recently. Being space frugal is getting too tough with 16 anymore.

32 minimum from here on out!

When I had 16gb I found that I ended up spending way too much time managing it, always needing to delete one thing to add another. That was back in the pre-retina days. Now, it's not uncommon for single apps to weigh in at a gig+.

It really depends on your usage pattern though, I'm a very heavy user and where I live I've got to contend with data caps so I don't like deleting stuff even after I'm done with it.

I've never had issues with 16gb iPads. My primary use for it is web browsing and using a few financing apps here and there. It all depends on each individual's usage.

Anybody know if I could exchange a 16 gb air at best buy for a 32 no questions asked if I feel I need more space? I'm an elite plus member as well. So I have 45 day return but they would just so an exchange with a defect or anything?

I agree, I had a 32GB iPad 3 and went with a 16GB Air.

Along my iPhone and MBP, I guess I'm just a light iPad user because I stream all of my music/movies. I'm not much for gaming on a tablet. Between that, messaging, browsing, reading documents for school, space was never an issue for me.

My iPad 1 was 32gb and I always had plenty of space so when I upgraded to the iPad 3 I only got 16. That was a big mistake, I am always just on the edge of my storage space. Will definitely get a 32gb Air.
