This is how I see it, if you are going to spend $499 and have doubts on sufficient room for your needs, why not an extra $100 for piece of mind![]()
Basically take it back while you can and just save if you have to. The base model should really be 32GB.16 GB means you practically get only 13-14 GB. The OS takes its fair share, and 1 GB is counted as 10^9 bytes, not 2^30 bytes. You may still have plenty of space (depending on intended use), but if you're not aware of what I just wrote, then there's a high risk you'll get buyer's remorse the first time you connect your iPad to iTunes. I've seen it before. It happened to "a friend of mine".

At the time that happened to me, it was with an iPhone. I learned a few things about content management the next 2 years, though. Now I have a SGS4 with a 64 GB micro SD card, and I paid less than fifty bucks for that card.
But for those who only use their iPad for streaming, web surfing and ebooks, it's hard to justify the upgrade to 32 GB.
32gb is 2x 16gb.
I agree, I had a 32GB iPad 3 and went with a 16GB Air.I've never had issues with 16gb iPads. My primary use for it is web browsing and using a few financing apps here and there. It all depends on each individual's usage.
