Hello, I have the Mobius Pro 5C 5-Bay USB-C External Drive Enclosure with three 6tb drives installed. 2 of the drives are in a RAID configuration.

Every time I plug it in, my 16in. Macbook Pro shuts down. The fans go full blast and it immediately shuts off.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

As a test -- Will it boot back up, if you shut down first, connect the external, then power back on?

Have you tried it both with and without power adapter plugged in to your MBPro?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, if I plug in the external when MBP is shut down it works fine. It's the only way to get it to work, becuase when the MBP is on, the MBP shuts down. But I hope to not have to shut MBP down in order to do so.

I have not tried connecting without the power adapter plugged in. Do you think it might make a difference?

What year MBP? Do you have this issue with any other USB-C devices? If not, I would blame the drive chassis, not the laptop.

What does Mobios say when you contact them about this issue with their product?

FWIW, my 16" MBP works fine with external SSD and rotational drives.

Please tell us that you are NOT plugging in that enclosure while the enclosure power switch is turned on?
But, I agree, if the MBPro shuts off, even when the drive enclosure is shut off, there's possibly something wrong with the enclosure. The enclosure operating instructions do say to turn ON drive power after plugging in the host computer.

It's a 2020 16' MBP. I do not have this issue with other USB-C devices. I don't think it is the laptop, but can't rule it out.

Wow thanks for this reply, even though I feel a little stupid. Should have read manual more carefully. I did not know that the enclosure had to be switched off before plugging it in. I still need to test it, but hope this is a solution.

Unfortunately still having the same problem. Regardless of the power being on or off.

This is a dumb question.
Does the drive enclosure use its own power supply?
You're using it, right...?

Other thoughts...
(yes, I realize this is work):
Take the 2 RAID'd drives OUT OF the enclosure for the moment.
Now try it with just the "UN-RAID'd" drive.
Does this change things?
