Hello,

I tried starting up my MBP yesterday and the chimes sounded as usual and the screen went silver/white as usual, but that's where everything stopped. The little circular sun-like icon never appeared and the led on the front of the screen opening button flashed madly. When I hit the power button a second time the MBP powered down instantly. I tried booting it up a few more times with no success.

Then I tried turning it on by holding down the power button until it gives that shreeking sound followed by the boot chime. This got the machine to boot but it made funny static crackling noises from the speakers while it booted and they slowly died down over the first few minutes of using the laptop.

When I when to start-up this morning I had the exact same problem - except that this time my first attempt holding the power button down until after the skreechy sound and chime didn't work - but it did the second time.

I'm afraid to Shut-Down for fear that I'll never be able to boot-up again!!!😱

Any suggestions what might be going on here???

Cheers,
James
