Apple tests their batteries with:

1. The screen brightness set to 50%.
2. WiFi turned ON, bluetooth turned OFF.
3. The 9400M only. The 9600M GT was turned off.
3. Surfing the web with just a single tab, changing webpages every 20 seconds (or possibly 40.....I forget).

When reviewers at websites tried this, they timed it and got over 7 hours. While writing reports and reviews, surfing the web, listening to music occasionally, and with the LCD brightness set a few notches below full brightness, they got around 4.5 to 5 hours of battery life.

I think that's pretty good.

They probably set it to lowest-usable settings and test it in a very cold room ;-) (batteries are less capable in hot environment).
It's actually the exact opposite. :p You get lower battery life in cold weather, although for conserving the lifespan of your battery when not in use, colder is better. m85476585 pointed this out first, but I just wanted to get my 2 cents in as well. :D

I was talking to a physicist in Sydney about his trips to Antarctica, who's also a photographer, and he was telling me that due to the cold, he wouldn't get many shots on battery power, so he had to carry like 5 with him everywhere he wanted to shoot, and he actually brought 20 batteries with him. Besides the batteries, the massive temperature difference between inside and outside also played havoc on his lenses. They'll probably get moldy inside soon.
