So I'm hearing that the 17" MBP will be in stores February 2nd or 3rd. Is there any proof of this?

I'm also reading about 17" MBPs shipping as late as the end of February. Is this the case with completely stock 17" MBPs?

Is there any reason not to buy it in store on the 2nd/3rd if I am getting a completely stock 17" MBP? I don't think I'll have trouble finding one in stock, as there are Apple stores all over the place here.

Buy it in store and come back to macrumors and post that u got yours before all the ppl that ordered them when they were announced. With pictures of course. Ill be getting mine in store.

People order the online for a few reasons.

- They don't have a store near by.
- They want customized ones, most stores only have a few upgrade options(ram, they probably wont have matte).
- Discounts, I had to order my online if I wanted to save $560 which sucks because I would have one the first day it hits the store if I didn't.

Reasons to not buy in store:

Only the base model available

Will sell out within a couple of hours

Wont come with iLife '09 Preinstalled (only the online versions will get this, people who buy in store will have to pay to upgrade later)

Cant have any other software preinstalled

Wont be able to get the matte version

Looks like there's no reason for me to get it online. I wonder if it will actually sell out. Is February 2nd confirmed? I should be able to get to the store at opening.

You have to pay $50 for iWork to be included anyways?

I prefer to buy at the store because if you get a dead/stuck pixel or any other problems, you can get it swapped out instantly.

Yeah, the 17" is not very popular and most people that do get this model order online. They probably don't get that many in though so you might want to call and see if they're getting them in, if they are get there early.

My reason to buy the 17" online.

Buy in store: 2800+tax, tax in my state is 6% so figure $2,968

Buy online $2,600, no tax free shipping.

Buy online save $368

How did you avoid tax, did you ship it to your home state?

MBP 17/2.66/2X2GB/320/SD/GLSY-USA MB604LL/A $2,239.00 1 $2,239.00
Ships: Feb 10
Delivers: Feb 13
Subtotal $2,239.00
Sales Tax $111.95
Total Price $2,350.9

My online order has tax. :-(

Enroll in the ADC Program. You get about 20% of a macbook pro :)

This seems to only give about $100 dollar discount with a $3000 MBP after purchasing the ADC membership. Is it really worth it? I can't access the ADC Member store to find out more information. Any more hidden perks?

Actually I'm eligible for the Student package assuming they don't care whether I'm in a programming related degree or not...

If you buy online you pay no taxes.

That's never been the case, they always charge tax if you're shipping address requires it.

I paid $499 for the ADC membership which gave me 20% off the MBP so if you add everything up I paid around $40 for the ADC membership which was a great deal.
