Skylake with higher-end GPUs is not out yet, AFIAK. Thats why Apple is still using Broadwell with the iMac.

Leman it's just not worth bothering, I've said the same thing in endless threads to endless people who aren't prepared to do the research and understand what is happening they just see skylake it must be better.

Take the surface book, it's just a fat macbook air with the option for a less than mediocre mobile dGPU for $2500 but you'd think microsoft had put a supercomputer in a 13 inch frame the way everyone reacted.

But the 27-inch iMac is Skylake and has a dGPU.

Ist ja auch egal, hier geht's ja um die 17" MacBooks. Ich behalte meins jetzt einfach. Ist ja noch gut. Hätte bloß gerne USB 3.0 und Thunderbolt 2.0 und eine höhere Auflösung. :D

Oh I'm so tired. Couldn't sleep the whole night and it's already evening again. Can't explain everything in english now what I want to say.

Good night guys!

Goodnight Erdbeertorte, Yes that is the reason they went skylake went in the 27 inch because with a dGPU it didn't matter that the skylake chips with better graphics weren't used, whereas in the 21 inch they had to go broadwell to get the IRIS PRO graphics in the absence of the dGPU.

Couldn't sleep at all, just about an hour or so. :( So please apologise if I'm repeating myself or writing nonsense.

Broadwell can also handle DDR4 RAM and USB 3.1 and there are a few new ugly gaming notebooks with 17,x-inch out there that already have Thunderbolt 3. I think they use Desktop CPUs. If Notebooks can use Desktop CPUs why not an iMac, that is a Desktop Computer? And why does the just released iMac has slower DDR3 RAM than the faster one that even my 5 years old MacBook Pro can handle? And all Retina MacBooks got slower RAM than possible too.

Why the hell are only the 13- and 15-inch notebooks in the same product line-up of those gaming notebooks get higher resolutions than Full HD? That doesn't make any sense.
Those are really good ones and you can upgrade everything by yourself. The only problem is I hate Windows and don't know if Linux provides all drivers for those new devices. Anyway I want OS X only. But that might change if Apple continues to produces dives that I can't repair or upgrade myself.

Imacs do use desktop CPU's (although they use mobile GPU's), broadwell doesn't have DDR4 support and even skylake doesn't have it on every chip and thunderbolt 3 is useless on an all in one with the possible exception of using huge amounts of raid storage. Yes it is a desktop but an all in one is by nature a compact aesthetic choice for an all round computer not a gaming machine.

To be honest RAM speed really doesn't make that much difference, it's bandwidth limiting until DDR4 and that is currently stupidly expensive and isn't clocked much faster than DDR3.

There are many notebooks with retina style screens these days but everyone knows that the mobile graphics cards just aren't good enough to run AAA games at those super high resolutions yet so they don't go in many gaming laptops.

Apple are not going to go back on non-upgradeable parts so I suggest you get used to another OS.
