I love my early 2011 2.2 17". I went with the 750GB 5400rpm drive, knowing I would buy an SSD later on. However, I was accustomed to my PowerMac G5, which sped along nicely with 8GB RAM and a dual-7200rpm RAID setup. The MBP actually felt slower in some situations than the PowerMac, until I bough my SSD. Of course for something like encoding a video, the MBP runs circles around the G5.

I agree with others: 1900x1200 screen is glorious. I can eke 6 hours out of a charge if I need to. Overall I am happy. It is the nicest computer and laptop I've ever owned.

I also love my 17in MBP. The screen is amazing with its 1920x1200 resolution and great real estate. The speakers may be the best I've ever heard from a laptop, which isn't really saying much. But surely they won't disappoint.

I put an SD card reader into the ExpressCard and it just stays there and is unobtrusive.

I'm now debating whether I should buy AppleCare or sell the MBP to buy the 2012 model. :D

I just recent purchase the 17" Mbp and love it. The screen is gorgeous. For those that upgrade their hhd to ssd, what is your recommendation cause I heard the late 2011 17"Mbp has issue with certain ssd.
