I´m having difficulties managing the brightness and power alternatives on my brand new machine.

When I try to regulate via brighness buttons on keyboard - up or down - nothing happens to the screen.
When I go into power options, I can regulate to full brightness by hitting "Reduce brightness when ..." and at the same time pressing keyboard button (f2). But only with this combination will I manage to get to full brightness.

I first thought the screen was ridiculously dim, but at full brightness it´s ok.
Compared to my Imac (fall 2008), it is mildly dissapointing though.

Something is wrong?

The strange thing is, I can get to a sort of semi-full brightness.
But "true" full brightness won´t last me more than a few seconds.

Anyone with similar experiences?

OK, so I went to
System Preferences -> Displays -> Brightness slider

Her I can change the brightness permanently. But the keyboards buttons still has no effect ...

This is very frustrating

Ar the keyboard's brightness buttons on the function keys? You might have to hold the Fn key down to get the Fn buttons to work on a laptop (I don't know).

Did you install the OS that came with the MBP? Doing so did wonders here: much better colour, and brightness buttons on the keyboard that actually do something.

Archive and reinstall. Tell us how it goes.

I have reinstalled and everything seems to be working great!
Wow, what a relief ... too expensive machine for anything to be going wrong the first day. I had an almost Widows-like scare.

Thanks for the above tip!

cheers,
P
