Who is at fault here? Apple or Verizon? Both? I have Verizon and always buy my phones unlocked directly from Apple. Using Apple Card 0% financing, Verizon wanted to hit me with a $40 upgrade fee. What is that about? I was going to pick another carrier to get around the fee, but was not sure if that would have worked. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I opted for full price instead and was not going to hand $40 to Verizon just because fee.

Apple announced this change a year ago. Paying outright is the only way to avoid the carrier fee (if I am not mistaken). It is my speculation that the carriers were mad they were missing out on extra money and stuck it to Apple to make a change.

I pay in full and pick a carrier later.

Thanks! Somehow I missed that announcement last year. I didn’t have the Apple Card at that time and paid in full using another card. Real crappy move imo, it is what it is though.

I have Visible and used TMO to buy mine with Apple Card's 24 month 0% financing.
$0 connection fee.
Will you have activation issues though? Is it not set for TMO technically? Like I said, I wanted to do the same. But, I actually have Verizon. I didn’t trust them not to tack on a $40 fee regardless of picking another carrier trying to get around the fee. Maybe Verizon internal system could detect the shenanigans trying to be pulled. I have no clues and just speculating. 🤔 🤷🏼‍♂️

Will see, this is my first time I am using a MVNO.

Friday will be the test day!

Visible doesn’t have any upgrade fees and it’s not like T-Mobile can charge him.

It might be different for those on the big two with postpaid.
I know in the way of upgrade fees. I’m just more curious if Visible can actually get it activated or not. Could be locked to TMO temporarily. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I know Verizon has a 60 day lock if you go carrier.

Ah, yes, activation could hit a snafu.

ACMI is always unlocked though regardless of carrier choice.

If you use/used your Applecard you can contact Applecard Support to have the charge converted to no interest installments. That's what I did.
