Has anyone installed Yosemite on their daily drive?

Has anyone installed Yosemite on their daily drive?
Without using a separate partition or VM?

I will not do this.
But if anyone has I wonder how they are liking the beta for their daily tasks.
 
I installed the beta last night on my main computer. Overall it seems to work well, only a few minor glitches that were fixed after a reboot.
 
Can't do it for my main Mac, and my secondary Mac doesn't make the cut (Early '08 MB). So I bought an Early '09 classic MacBook on eBay for $199 specifically to run the Preview and Public Beta exclusively. So far after doing a clean install from a flash drive of the Public Beta, it's running great! Almost needs an SSD though, the 5400 RPM spinner is quite lacking on anything past Snow Leopard.

When I had it on my rMBP I was having lots of bugs and being unable to open apps like preferences, Safari, Calendar, and most anything else. But on the current Public Beta, it's actually rather stable. I wouldn't trust some of the pro apps too well though, I had issues with Aperture, didn't install FCPX or CS5 though.

I tired iOS 8 as well and had to roll back to iOS 7 due to the phone not opening or getting calls on occasion, pretty serious bug for a phone, LOL. Unless you're fine with a Mac that doesn't "just work", then you'll be alright on the Beta 😎

Note, my mouse cursor totally just disappeared while I was posting this. But it's back now 🙄
 
Yes, I did install Yosemite on my main HD - of course I have a backup! But I'm not using very advanced functions and apps - only Safari, iTunes, Mail and so on. But it feels very stable - but it's (of course) not ready for a final release yet. For instance when starting my Mac, it doesn't automatically join the Wifi network - I have to manually click on the Wifi I want to join.
 
Yes I did install it on my main machine...since DP3

I have no significant problems. I am using photoshop, Xcode, safari, VMWare Fusion and many other development tools extensively and intensively and have had little to no problems!
 
Yep, installed on my main laptop a 2013 Retina 15" MacBook Pro and also on my MacPro

Runs Office 2011 as my main office suite, only issue I have to date is OneNote, crashes when it opens and doesn't go any further.

Citrix works great and also works great with the proxy server at work as well.

I am quite happy at present 🙂

I kind of did. I have a MBA and iMac. I keep the majority of my content on my iMac to keep space off my small SSD, but I use my MBA as my day-to-day computer. I installed Yosemite on my MBA and haven't really ran into any major problems. Weird glitch here and there but it doesn't cause any problems for me.

So far what I have come to notice, markup in mail is probably one of the best features IMO. I've used it over a dozen times in less than 24 hours.
 
I've got it running on my 13" rMBP (late 2013) which is my daily driver (I do have a full TimeMachine backup though).

So far, so amazing. Safari is noticeably faster. I love the aesthetic and am a huge fan of the new notification center/today screen. Sadly, I will be retiring Alfred since the new Spotlight Search is so good. I know Alfred is still capable of way more, but so far Spotlight has been able to do all of the tasks I used Alfred for. Sorry old buddy.


The only things that don't work are Little Snitch (supposedly a nightly build that works with Yosemite is available, but I haven't bothered) and VMWare Fusion 6.0.2. (Note: VMWare is offering a tech preview beta that works with 10.10). Luckily neither of things are critical for me.

All my other 3rd party add ons/extensions/services seem to be working. Fantastical, f.lux, iStat Menus, 1password and Fortinet's endpoint client (AV/VPN) are working fine.
 
I did, and I actually didn't do a full backup prior to the update.

I should note, though, that daily driver is probably a misnomer for me. I have a small enough library of critical documents and data (photos/music) that it's all backed up on free cloud services.

The only processes I really need this computer for is as a media server (Plex, which is working fine), basic internet connectivity, and Kerbal Space Program (also working just fine, although if it didn't, a little break probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for me. 😛)

The only thing of value for me that did break for me was iStat menus, which is annoying, but I may have also had an old version of that... I also love dark mode, but any menu item that isn't first party looks awful/invisible.

I'm also giving Safari a good spin before I fire up Chrome Beta. So far I'm liking it.

I haven't checked on my Windows 8 partition yet, but I use that so rarely, that I didn't really mind if something happened to it.

Sure. I did. I replaced Mavericks with it on my main computer. It's fine so far.
 
I partitioned my testing iMac's 500 GB drive into 2 250 GB sections and installed Yosemite on one, leaving Mavericks on the other. The testing iMac was supposed to be replaced by a newer one, but we had to return it and am waiting for another one to come in the mail. So pretty much I'm using this testing iMac as a daily driver with Yosemite until further notice...

It seems to work very well indeed, there were a few glitches with launchpad that were fixed by a reboot, Steam doesn't seem to be too happy with Yosemite, and I hate the new default zoom button behavior. Other than that, it's great.
 
I did not install Yosemite as my daily driver, but put it on an external SSD. I'm glad I did because, as expected, it's buggy. If this was my regular OS, I'd not be too happy.
 
I did, it installed without any issues in about 18 minutes. I was impressed that it even told me certain apps were no longer compatible with it. It's been very stable so far and I am pleasantly pleased as i wasn't sure how i'd like the flat redesign.
 
I did too on my 15'' rMBP (2012) .. There is some noticeable lag here and there (which I hope that it will get fixed in the future) but I love the look, so I have no regrets !
 
I installed on my main computer, main is a relative term because my main computer is my work computer and I only use my laptop for goofing off at home. Thus far I have had no bugs but have really only played on Safari. I have my wife's computer as a backup, she was mad because I updated mine and wanted to keep hers unupdated. She hasn't even updated to Mavrick yet so I don't know why she cares so much.

Your love of the word "expected" aside, I actually agree with you. From my use of it on a partition, the OS is very well done. I like the UI and mostly everything about it. But it just does not feel ready for the prime time just yet. I guess Apple feel the usual DP crowd was not enough to find all the obscure bugs so they needed 1 million more beta testers.

I don't think it's as bad as people claim but probably not ready for my daily drive. Still I asked that question here because some people think it is ready now. And some of these people give a good indication of how ready the OS is for GM.

(I said some because not everyone would notice the little things that make an OS not ready to be made into a GM).
 
I put it on my macbook air that I got the other day and the only issues I have are when I open it up in the morning its appears to be frozen on the login screen. Don't know if it has something to powernap or what.
 
I'm using it on my daily drive. Haven't ran into any problems except a minor Safari crash. It's also a bit laggy at times but overall I'm really digging the new OS.
 
I'm surprised to read all the positive reviews. Many said this beta is too early to be made public. But it seems OK so far.
 
I'm running it on my 2012 cMBP as the main OS. But, all my important data is in Dropbox and I don't use it for work; I also have Time Machine if things go terribly wrong. I've submitted a few bug reports already, but nothing major with Yosemite so far. I like it.
 
I did and it's been pretty good. Safari freezes a little too often but aside from that it's been solid. Even the Mail app is running better than it was in Mavericks.

My coolest thing I've seen today is when I got an email for a UPS tracking number on something I bought I went to copy paste it but when I clicked on it Safari booted up and took me straight to it - it wasn't a hyperlink. Just like a smart mail feature.

I'm not too worried as if my system did need reset all my important data is backed up.

It's not ever meant as a solid and stable daily drive. It's a beta? Of course its going to be buggy and unstable at times, show me a beta that isn't. But for a beta it is very stable and solid.
 
I thought about partitioning my machine, but after serious consideration, I decided I really don't use enough applications to be too concerned.
