I just came back from BestBuy - checked exactly same thing. Don't know. It will be my work laptop, and I'd like to take it home every day. 13 will work much better.

I don't do video, but I do development in VisualStudio.

Can anybody tell what's more important for VS, CPU or SSD speed? I'm using external 4k monitor, so that aspect is not important.

Also, I feel that using on a "lap" 13 might work better and be cooler..

Decisions, decisions.. Same price for 16/512..

Anything graphics related will of course work much faster and smoother on a quad core with a superior graphics card. The 13 is only a dual-core and it has a lower grade graphics card. Get the 15.

But as I said I do not do anything with graphics.
I do softare development in Visual Studio. It's just text, etc.

And, I double-checked same config (16/512) runs about $2250 vse $2k for 13", I think I will stay with newer 13" for my stuff

Ah ok. Well try it out then, you can always return it for the 15 if you need to.

If you're taking it home everyday, the 13" would be much better. It doesn't sound like a quad core or even the 16GB are necessary.

I would just stay with 8GB ram and focus on deciding how much hard drive space you need.

The 13" is a very nice computer.

16GB is pretty much must for me. I tend to use Virtual Machines and even work in them. For example, my Windows dev environment need at least 8Gb to be happy. So, if I run in it virtual I need about 10Gb... I'm settled on 16/512

That makes sense then!!

You've got it right it sounds like!

I went to BB today, tested both machines and came home with the 15". $1799 plus the 10% movers coupon was just to much to pass up. The extra screen real-estate will be priceless. Force touch was nice but that wasn't as important as screen size....to me any way.

Excellent, you won't be disappointed... the extra screen real-estate is worth it for sure...

Excellent. Glad you found one you liked. To me, the 15" is just too big. But that's why they make different sizes.

I spent some time looking at the 13" and 15" at the Apple Store yesterday. I've been using a MBA 13" for 4 years now. That Retina screen is sure growing on me....

Excellent!

I just went through this exact dilemma and came away with the 13" i7/16GB/512 with the force trackpad and could not be happier.

I am glad you got the one you wanted...both are just phenomenal machines!

I honestly do not think there is a right or wrong choice. These machines are phenomenal!!!

Well, technically, if you need four cores, then the 13" is the wrong choice. Four cores come in very handy in some tasks, and those needing that extra horsepower will benefit a lot although they will also have to contend with a larger laptop. But you are right, all these laptops are just outstanding. Very hard to make a "wrong" choice.

Why so technical?:) Just making a general statement.

Just came back from best buy with the same machine. Got it for the same price (1799 less 10%). Was too good to pass up as the discounted price came out to just a few dollars more than the 2015 13" I had specced out on the apple website (256gb 16gb ram). So for the same price I got a quad core i7 and a 15" screen. Force touch not a big deal to me nor is portability.

I did almost pull the trigger on the 512Gb model with the dedicated graphics card. Figured I'd take that extra $400 and buy an apple watch instead.
