Thanks mate. Still waiting for the moment of truth
The boot chime... ahhhh, probs in a few hours we'll have assembled the whole thing and boot up

…I had a close look at the iFixit steps for taking apart the display assembly on the A1139 and I made a gentle whimper.
I've done that (on the A1013). The actual dissassembly of the entire display is very easy. It's just disconnecting the LCVD cable and power cable from the logicboard and pulling out the screws that hold the hinges onto the frame. The inverter board will come out with the display. Few other cables you have to disroute, but still.

Taking apart the display itself though is the worst. It's got a whole bunch of tiny little flesh-eating metal hooks that will tear your hands apart in nothing flat. I did this once, and by the time I was done I was cleaning blood up off the back of the display and had one cut that looked like an X-Acto had done it.

After that I just replace the entire damn thing.

I have the lid to the defective display I removed back in 2010 in the garage. One day, rather than reminding me of this painful affair it will be a mood light (I plan to put it on the wall and have the Apple logo light up with a soft glow around the eges of the lid).

[doublepost=1553527340][/doublepost]My buddy and I are tearing it down to clean it up and such. Here are the pics from that
Nice job, looks like you're leaving no screw unturned. I love tearing these 17" PBooks aparts, as they are certainly roomy inside.
I have yet another 12" PowerBook to refurbish over the weekend. Ok agreed, I must be raving mad as imho they are the most difficult I've ever encountered, even flipping the keyboard caps to get to the retaining screws beneath is always a royal pita.

It seems like I can never get those damn things off, on any model, without breaking something and then having them refuse to reattach, ending up with this:

Arrgghh...
