Not just 16", it would eat into iMacs top end as well. But it's fine as long as people buy a product from Apple's lineup right?
Yes, you are right. I suppose cannibalization should not be a concern for Apple. At least this is what Tim Cook said at an earnings report back in 2013:

Easier said than done. Apple's last moves show that the company is very concerned about keeping its products in separate clusters with the purpose of not inducing customers to feel inclined to opt for cheaper products. Apple's fear of cannibalization seems very clear to me these days.

I don't see the need to equate screen size with processing power.

I'd buy a 16, 17 or 18 Air.
Me neither. but Apple seems to do. I actually bought an LG Gram 17, with a 17-inch 16:10 screen with a 2560x1600 resolution. I think it is great and is the closest thing possible to a large MacBook Air since Apple will not release one. It is brilliant and Apple should think twice before denying its customers this possibility.

I love the concept of the Gram and I've played with it at Costco many times.

I'd like it with a 4k display and an M1 or M2. It would be mobility to me when I don't need the MacBook Pro 16.

LG Gram also has upgradeable RAM (1 stick) and you can add an NVMe drive or replace the existing one.

So far I am liking it a lot. The 17-inch screen gives a sense of freedom which I do not have in the constrained limits of a 13.3-inch screen. I would also like a 4K display. However, the 2560x1600 display on the LG Gram 17 is impressively good, and the resolution is fine and the text is sharp enough.

I have bought mine last week and I made a quite comprehensive preliminary review of it after my first 24 hours, which I put in this topic here if you would like to take a look: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/lg-gram-17.2320107/?post=30562597#post-30562597.

The Mythical Large Airs. Never coming just like Large iPads are not. These devices are all about portability and not just lightness or thinness. The best we can hope for is a bigger screen MacBook Air/iPad Pro in a similar sized shell.

LG Gram's 17" 2k (ish) screen is good because it's got Windows that allows custom scaling on low res screens. That screen on a Mac would just suck. Imagine a 1280x800 Screen Size on a 17" display.

I use Retina laptops at native resolution.

17" at 4K for sure. For 18", depends on the additional weight and battery life.

I still feel more comfortable to use my 2010 17" MBP and at the same time I am used to 4K displays. Native resolutions on the 16" 2019 is a bit small for me. I tried the Lenovo P17 with a 4K screen. I liked it but the machine was too heavy and Lenovo's IPS displays always have light bleed issue. For those who have used the 2021 MPB 16" and 4K displays, is it similar to 4K on a 17" screen?

I would get it just for the screen! I would go even bolder and crank it to 19.2 inches. The intended purpose is to be a portable desktop replacement. Reintroduce the 15.2 inch in a 14 inch form factor as a kind of middle ground, let the Air become a 13.9 inch as a nice portable every day laptop for those who need it.

I would bring back the 12 inch in the 11 inch form factor since those bezels were ginormous to begin with. For those who want an ultra portable family of Mac notebooks or a desktop replacement with portability they would have many choices.

The 19.2 inch model would come with like a M2 Pro Max 40 cores, 32 GBs of unified memory and 1 TB standard starting at 3,299, while the 12 inch Air starts at 899. Apple would pretty much corner the market. I can see some groups of users buying both the 19.2 and 12 inch for different use cases. On the plane, use the Air, at the work site, bring out the 19.2 inch.

Nope, and I think it is just too small of market that Apple would do it. A 15" MBA on the other hand would tap a huge market.

MacOS allows for different scaling options, but not using an aspect ratio that corresponds to the actual resolution.
