It’s that great time of year again; summer heat dissipating, humidity breaks, pumpkin spice stuff, and new Apple products! Yes I get excited to see the new Apple lineup even if I don’t plan on upgrading it’s still interesting to me. But hopefully I’ll get a new handset this time even though my trusty 16 Pro Max is fine I am liking the meaningful upgrades like better thermal management and processor efficiency and fresh new batteries.
As always I like considering going to a Pro vs the Pro Max (even though I never ever have) but it sounds like the Pro Max is really going to be the winner for the 18 models due to larger battery capacity. I’ve always been the first one to say I would compromise size and weight for battery improvements but will the Pro Max actually be too heavy this time? And if so will the humble Pro model lose out on any (significant) potential battery spec bumps? How about thermal management for the Pro? Will the smaller form factor necessitate smaller vapor chamber and therefore heat up sooner? I know the A20 is supposed to be 30% more efficient which seems massively better. One thing that is really driving me to upgrade is my 16 Pro Max does horrible even in cooler weather when using outdoors in sunlight; the screen fades within a minute or so and I hear the newer vapor chamber and other improvements have made a difference in the 17 series so I expect the 18 models to continue improving here. So, do you think the rumored improvements will propel the Pro model battery and cooling to rival or exceed my 16 Pro Max capabilities, or should I just go ahead and get the 18 Pro Max and be sure of performance gains at the cost of yet even more weight? I feel like a smaller display will be more ergonomic for my purposes and I have an iPad for around the house use. I really enjoy considering all the different options when it comes to getting new iPhones and also having the option to not upgrade at all is good too; I still find new iPhone launches to be interesting and fun regardless.
