Anything out yet that has worked to get rid of the software update badge?

I just went to settings, general, software update and it keeps spinning for a long time but nothing happens past that and no badge for update shows up.
Yours shows up the 8.1.1 update available there?

Yes. This update showed up on my iPhone 5S after I restored to 8.1 then performed the jailbreak.

Im thinking its people who restored to 8.1 while it was still being signed, so essentially there was an update available when they restored

So could it be that your phone downloaded the 8.1.1 update before you applied the jailbreak?

I had an update blocker in iOS7(NoOTA, I think) which may have carried over to 8.1. I found:

- Jailbreaking 8.1 before restoring my backup = no icon badge and a spinning circle in the update section of Settings

- Jailbreaking 8.1 after restoring my backup = icon badge and the spinning circle

I have some iPhones here not on 8.1.1 at work(stock iOS) so I'll see if I can delete the OTA update file in /var/mobile/Library/SoftwareUpdate using iExplorer, etc.

:edit: no dice, can't access that folder.

Is there a way to manually remove the badge? Right before I turned on airplane mode to jailbreak my new 6, I got that stupid pop up telling me to update to 8.1.1. Of course now I have that stupid badge on the settings app.

It doesn't bother me all that much. I'd rather not install a tweak to hide but if there's a manually way to remove it if much prefer that approach. I'm hoping its a simple "modify a plist file" but based on my googling, it doesn't seem that's possible.

Not that I know of, short of a tweak, someone smarter with iOS programming or shutting off all badges.
Maybe if more of us contact the iCleaner dev he can sort out a way.

That's too bad. I kinda figured that. I was hoping there was a way because it can easily be done for App Store apps. There's really no reason to remove those manually since they reappear as soon as you open the App Store. But for iOS updates, my assumption is, if I could manually remove it, it will never return because I'm jailbroken and my phone can't check for updates.

Ya I did some iFile digging hoping to fix it and came up with diddly. It's prolly only meant to disappear once the phone gets the ok on Apples end its 8.1.1 or its hidden in a file in a folder somewhere

Yea me too. Well thanks for replying. Oh well, not that big of a deal. Thanks!

Try ccsettings clear badge feature.

Thanks for the suggestion! Because you said this, I went back and did a search for "clear badge" and I stumbled upon a simple tweak from Merlin called Remove Badges. I installed it and set up an activator gesture to icon flick down. I performed the action on the settings app and the badge went away! I removed the tweak since I don't need that type of ability, and the badge is still gone!

I'm so happy haha. Thanks Hank! Although I'm not sure if ccsettings would have worked, your suggestion led to my discovery! Inside the settings app the "1" still remains in the software update cell but that does not bother me at all. Thanks again hank!

Just found a simple way to remove it. A tweak called Remove Badges gets rid of it.

Just to round out my recent posts about this topic, I also just found a way to manually remove the "1" from inside the settings app. Gotta love macrumors members! I did some more googlin and found this post. Many thanks to the poster! I no loner have the badge or the "1" inside the settings app. These really didn't bother me, especially the "1". I would have been fine keeping them both. But because we jailbreak we have options to address these types of things lol. Anyways, here's a link to the post so anyone can remove the "1" if they feel like it.
