Signs of Spring in Your Neighborhood...

Yes, I actually get out of my pajamas and outside now and then. :p



1. Daffodils blooming at the 665 exit on Route 50 yesterday.

2. Forsythias blooming around the neighborhood.

3. ***** Willows blooming.

4. House finches and house sparrows nest building around the apartment (they're a health hazard, you know).

5. Canada Geese flying north this morning.

6. Raccoon trying to build his pimp palace in our attic.



What signs of spring in your neighborhood and where are you located?

I'm in Annapolis, MD near Washington DC.
 
All the chavettes around here have started exposing their pasty, flabby midriffs over the top of their tracksuit bottoms. That's generally a sign in these parts that the more milder spring climes are on their way.

Days are getting shorter. It's getting cooler at night. Pretty soon the leaves up where my folks live will be changing - not so much down here on the coast but where they live it's very seasonal weather so we get four very distinct seasons - sometimes all during one day.

Can't wait for autumn to really break through. I'm so damned sick of this heat. Still 27°C at 12:30am and humid. I love winter so much - I can sleep at night, I can go outside and not sweat like a pig. When I visit the olds I can wake up to thick frosts on the windows and very occasionally, snow flurries.

I'm starting to develop a sense of excitement over the impending ski season, being able to wear my jackets again and not feel like I'm in a furnace, watching cold changes blow in from the south and bring the awesome winter storms to the coast - 7m (22ft) waves anyone?? It's so cool to watch - hope we get some like that one again.

Mostly I'm just looking forward to being able to sleep again.

North Mississippi - redbuds, daffodils blooming. I went three hours south this weekend and the pines were in full bloom leaving a coat of yellow all over the cars. Lots of small blooms on the forest floor - wild violets and such.

I was just asking a friend who just moved to Charlottesville VA if she'd been to see the Cherry Blossoms yet
 
The crocuses are starting to bloom here in the South of France. It's my first year here, so I really don't know the signs yet. I'm looking forward to learning more about it. Also, the mistral (winds that blow down from the Alps) were really strong on the coast this weekend. I think that's another sign.

Nice breezes, few rainy days, nice little clouds, cool nights, shorter days, and overall nice weather. Southern California.
 
- Neighbors emerging after their winter-long hibernation.

- Wild temperature and weather swings.

- Some brave plants starting to pop through the mulch.

- Baseball on television.

- NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Yeah, it's starting to green up around there, and makes for a nice drive. A few more weeks of weather like this and it will be an absolutely gorgeous drive. I'm curious to see what the drive on 216 between Rt. 1 and 95 is like right now. Now, THAT is a beautiful drive in the summer. I'd like to check it out in the Spring to compare.

Hey, we were practically all the way to Annapolis last week when we had to drive to the edge of Bowie. I recall the hubby making a comment that we should've invited you to come to dinner with us while we were out there. :)

Other indications around here that it's Spring:
1. Birds chirping in the morning hours outside our apartment window.
2. The heat has not been on in over a week and we even had to pull out the fan for a couple of days last week.
3. I got to wear a t-shirt for my morning run last Friday.
4. It's no longer dark or not really close to being dark when I go to meet the hubby at the train station in the evenings.
5. The maintenance crew at our apartment complex spent the last few days of last week mulching the grounds and planting spring flowers.
6. Green leafy buds on the trees outside my office window.
7. Daffodils getting ready to bloom.
8. My coat and scarf have started to collect dust in the closet.

EDIT: 9. I actually have the windows in my office OPEN. The fresh air streaming in feels great!

I heard crickets/frogs the other night, and it was SOO warm and beautiful out.

Best night of the year by far - maybe even a few years. It was so nice.

That to me, is spring :)
 
Well it was 80F+ Sat and Sun this weekend. And our Royal Star Magnolia now has 2 blooms (5 when I get home I bet). And I got a sunburn working out in the yard.
