Apple began accepting Apple Watch pre-orders at 12:01 AM Pacific today and disclosed further AppleCare+ pricing details for the wrist-worn device in the process. AppleCare+ for Apple Watch plans cost $49, $59 and $1,500 for the Sport, Watch and Edition models respectively, while accidental damage coverage is subject to an additional service charge of $69 for Sport, $79 for Watch and $1,000 for Edition.

Apple is also offering AppleCare+ combo plans that cover both an Apple Watch and iPhone for a combined price of $149 (Apple Watch Sport and iPhone), $169 (Apple Watch and iPhone) and $1,600 (Apple Watch Edition and iPhone). These plans are likely offered for convenience purposes, rather than being a discount, as they cost one dollar more than purchasing AppleCare+ for Apple Watch and iPhone separately.

One potential benefit of purchasing an AppleCare+ combo plan for Apple Watch and iPhone is that Apple appears to be covering undamaged iPhones that are up to six months old. Apple's standalone AppleCare+ for iPhone plan requires that customers purchase the warranty plan within 60 days of buying an iPhone. You are still required to add an iPhone to the AppleCare+ combo plan within 60 days of buying the coverage.

AppleCare+ extends an Apple Watch's warranty coverage to two years from the date of purchase for the Sport and Watch, and three years for Edition, and provides accidental damage coverage for up to two incidents. Without AppleCare+, purchases of the Apple Watch Sport and the stainless steel Apple Watch will be covered by a limited one-year warranty for hardware repairs and 90 days of complimentary support.

Separately for Apple Watch and iPhone is: $69 + $99 = $168
Purchased as a bundle: $169

Why?

ACT (Apple Convenience Tax), and you're probably so godforsaken rich that an extra dollar makes absolutely no difference.

Does this give insight to their cost?

$49/2 (2 possible replacements) + $69 each replacement, anyone else think Apple's cost to build the watch is probably $93.50? Possibly even less?

The S1 seems like it's replaceable easily from the product video on Apple's site.

It's probably will be pretty rare for a watch to need to be replaced entirely (body and S1) under AppleCare.

AppleCare Plus for Sport in US = $49. $49 = £33. Allowing for taxes, and rounding it up, it should be £39, but its £49.

AppleCare Plus for Collection in US - $69. $69 = £46. Using the same method, it should be £49, or at least £59. However, its the same, £69.

AppleCare Plus for Edition in US - $1500. $1500 = £1020. Using the same method, it should be £1099, or at least £1119. Regardless of that, AppleCare Plus is £1500.

I really think the prices should be lower in the UK.

This is great news for those with 6/6+ and forget to add it back then.

UK prices include VAT,
US prices don't include sales tax normally as they vary from state to state.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

Nope. It's an insurance. An insurer doesn't calculate his cost by assuming that it will be applied for 100% of the subscribers, that would be crazy...
Moreover, insurances like AppleCare are know to have a huge profit margin, usually much more than on the product itself. Especially since in Europe they are selling an insurance that doesn't insure much more than what they are legally obligated to...

Talk about confusion... Their phones/tablets may be simple to use, but the services Apple provides sure arn't.

There is no reason to have an AppleCare+, other than to get more money from ya..

The standard Applecare warranty (if one DID come with the watch), would cover all of this....

Just one Apple care covers the lot. no need to separate the into "accidental damage" then imply you can only to 2 per year or whatever it covers... (there is always a catch.)

Apple care normally extends to 3 years anyway, so whats the problem here ?:apple:

Warranty is warranty, no matter how u try and slice it up...... and Apple cannot tell me different...

I have never bought insurance for any of my apple products and I have owned apple since before they had apple care. so far i have only had to replace a phone screen once. having had no other issue, consider that there is no need for apple care. Call it self insurance.

However, I think that with the watch it might be worth it, especially the sport watch. with the sapphire glass maybe not.

Money!!! They sure love it!
First off, if you sell premium products at premium prices you should at least include a standard two (three would be better) years warranty. It would give a different message: "my products are pricey but they're so good I can warrant them for three years" instead of "my products are pricey but they're made with the same Chinese components as any other, so I can warrant them only for one year".
If I buy a 3000€ laptop I expect it to be more reliable than a 500€ one, but somehow the warranty is the same. They even have the courage to ask 1500€ more over a 10000€ watch to give you a decent warranty (the "reasoning" being: I KNOW you have a lot of money, so give me some more!). I guess you can do that when you can ask +500€ for a stainless steel watchband.
Second, these apple watch care prices are nonsense, the only difference between the three lines is the casing material; the electronics, which is what is covered by the warranty, are identical, so why should there be any price difference?!

$1,500 (or equivalent) insurance for a watch / device, which doesn't include accidental damage?

What does this cover, that wouldn't be covered under the minimum 2-year EU guarantee? Just curious..

Lost

Apple has lost it and me. The Edition has identical (under warranty) electronics.
