Apple has quietly updated the Apple Online Store to list that the Apple Watch Sport ships with one fluoroelastomer band that includes three pieces to make either a Small/Medium (S/M) or Medium/Large (M/L) strap.

The updated "what's in the box" section confirms a TechCrunch report from last week that, "with very good authority," claimed that the Apple Watch Sport would ship with a three-piece band.

It was initially believed that the Apple Watch Sport would ship with two separate bands for sizing purposes, leading to the creation of services such as BandSwapper that intended to allow customers to swap their unused bands for a different size or color. But Apple's unique three-piece approach to the Sport band eliminates the chance that customers will be able to swap out their unused band.

Kinda cheeky, changing the description after people have ordered.

Bets on there being a "program" where people who buy the sport can get the other half?

What about  Watch Stainless Steel with sport band? Does it come with 3? Anyone know? I'd assume so.

I thought this was confirmed last week? Wasn't this part of the story related to the band exchanging website?

The common sense conclusion. I hope they've passed the information on to their customer service staff who kept insisting the Watch came with two full bands.

Heavily speculated from a good source. Bandswapper kept saying it was purely speculation.

Okay, thanks. I guess I had assumed it was confirmed. But now it really is confirmed. Wonder what Bandswapper will do now?

Answered my own questions. From Bandswapper website --

Breaking News: Apple Changes Sport Watch Band Description.
The team behind BandSwapper has been working on more than one Apple Watch related product and service. We're looking forward to launching those new products soon. Stay tuned.

It was "confirmed" in the MacRumors sense -- somebody said it, and someone else agreed. This is the first time the confirmation has come from Apple, on the record.

The new apple store description says the same as the sport, so yes. Before it only listed "Band" as in the box, but I am guessing that was just an oversight.

Maybe not a publicly-visible "program". But I bet anyone who ordered when the web site had the old language can get a second band for free, if they call and complain.

Lots of attorneys general want to become governor someday, and they love to very publicly attack a big company's mistake to appear to be helping the little folks. Apple won't want to tempt them.

Interestingly, the Apple's US store still has the old language for stand-alone sport bands. "Two bands: one Small–Medium band, one Medium–Large band". Let the pointless arguments on MacRumors continue!

Even Bandswapper is not talking about speculation anymore and is referring to other products launching soon. They should change their naming though :)

Tuts at the lying reps at my store

You do realize that Apple gives the same information to their retail employees that they give us through their online store. The employees are very rarely told anything more than what is posted to the public.

Actually it was confirmed with Apple executive staff last Friday and once again on Tuesday of this week that in fact there would be included in the packaging "4 separate pieces to comprise 2 bands". This is such a slap in the face to Apple fans, not because it was "obvious that it would be 3 pieces...makes sense", but because it was told to us, a married couple, that it would be bands that we would be able to interchange. This was reiterated to us not only at the retail (in store) level, but also at the customer service(Apple.com) level, and finally at the corporate (Cupertino) level. This is truly a disappointing launch, and my wife and I will be canceling our respective orders today.
What will be announced next...... The watch will not actually be arriving in the package, just some apps.... It's kind of here, hold tight you'll see it in time for X-mas!

My order page has a big "cancel" button next to my order. That's your relief if you think you've been wronged. No program needed.

If you got that from Apple executives, I hope you got their names. Contact them and ask them to make sure you get the extra band(s) you ordered, free of charge.
