(I have re-posted this here out of desparation)

I want a 19" TFT monitor for my MacMini, preferably DVI

I want to use it as a second workstation for occasional designwork, so crisp text is critical.

I have a budget of up to £300, but ideally less.

Can anyone recommend highly a monitor?

I am based in the UK.

I have seen an absolutely cheap £179 inc Vat Samsung Samtronic 94V 19" at Staples but it only has VGA, but am worried it seems too cheap and may not give me crisp text - am I right to avoid this one, or given the cost, is it worth considering.

I have also been recommended by PC World the following:

Iiyama Pro Lite E481S - £225 ex Vat

Samsung SyncMaster 913B - £225 ex Vat

HP L1940 - £249 ex vat

Does anyone have experience of these, and if so are there any problems I should be aware of?

(Update - I am also tempted by a Formac Gallery Extreme 19" at £269 inc vat - anyone used one of these?)

Advice welcomed urgently please - I need to make a choice asap.

Regards,

Andy G

FYI most of the 19" LCD displays that I have looked at don't offer any better resolution than a 17" LCD (1280 x 1024). And the 17" ones are usually $50-$100 less. No real recomendations on a particular one, but thought that might be good info to have.

Correct, they are no better in pixel count (1280 x 1024) but the 17" resolution is upwards of 90 pixels per inch, which means that everything is smaller than 'lifesized' and much harder to read. The 19" monitors are much more comfortable to read.

kgarner is right - there's not much advantage to a 19" over a 17". If you can afford a 20" you'll get a higher resolution.

The Dells are pretty good (I have a 17" 1704FPV), and include DVI, but the 20" seems to be £390, while the 19" is £267.
