Hi,
Macmall is now selling intel based macs with windows preinstalled.
Oh my.
This does not look good.
I am really worried about this.
I do not think that it is legal. Is it?
Any insight will be good.

Becuase the oem's Are not doing it.
Macmall is not an oem and can not be.
Apple could be though.
So it will have to be apple installing it not the reseller (macmall)

This is nonsense... as long as they have a transferrable license for the copy of Windows they are selling you, there is absolutely no reason they cannot do this....
 
Doesn't BootCamp expire since it's just beta? How can they sell a temporary solution to running windows?
 
I still don't know what to think about all this boot camp business. The notion that one can buy a Mac with Windows preinstalled seems somewhat creepy to me.

And this perfectly legal. As long as it's a legit Windows license, of course. Which it is.

If I understand it correctly, boot camp is only required to install Windows? I would think Apple would release update packages as well, so users can update their windows drivers without having to erase and reinstall.

And that filter would help sort out all the Mac Mini and Macbook Pro results that don't fall under the "Apple Computer" category? Good call on that one. Might as well filter for computers with a processor, HDD, and pre-installed RAM.
 
My god, you people are paranoid. We run the BEST operating system in the world. So long as it stays that way, it ain't gonna go away. Windows on the mac is just a convince, and after all the intial hype is over, I doubt many people are going to want to pay a price premium for a mac if they're just running Windows.

Take it easy, expect things like this, and stop boring us with the inane posts.

What's the big deal? People have legitimate reasons for needing Windows, and the fact they can use OSX and Windows on the same machine without emulation is great.
 
Great for Apple, bad for Dell. I'm sure it has both OS's in it but they push XP to draw in a PC user.

When the PC user gets it home they try out OSX when they're bored, and before you know it you have another convert. Maybe?
 
Questionable Course of Action....

Why would you want a reseller to install an operating system onto a computer the manufacturer does not support. MacMall can barely install the right free RAM correctly without getting kernel panics. I shutter to think what will happen when they start loading XP. They better include the actual XP disc and a fire-extinguisher with every purchase.

Apple wont support anything relating to boot camp or the Windows OS loaded, and MS wont support their OS if its loaded on a Mac.

I seriously doubt that MacMall has the qualified tech support help with whatever issue may arise. Especially since their tech support is now in a non-North American country where almost nobody uses a Mac...

Wrong.. a Mac is simply another PeeCee, Microsoft will support it all the same :p

Why not? Legal copy of Windows, running on an x86 machine, that meets XP's minimum requirements. No reason they shouldn't support it.
 
Some mac specialist here in Holland is also doing this, for 49 quid you have XP installed with a legal licence... amazing.. eheh

But the machine will cost more, and there are so many people with a legal (and illegal) version of WinXP out there right now that it doesn't make sense to pay for it unless you need to, IMO. Do you have an old WinPC? Even if it's old, it still probably comes with WinXP (which is like 5-6 years old).

If anyone is still checking this..... This is a response to posts #20 & 21.

A Mac isn't just another PC. If that were the case then there would not be the issues of virtualization. Apple has already said they would not support it. As for MS, They would not support it because it has nothing to do with legal licensing. Its the issue of virtualizaton. if something goes awry, they will just blame Boot Camp or Parallel or whatever else. If it does not run natively then they can't help you. Try calling them..... You will get a Canadian, nice people too...
 
You're right. Neither MS nor Apple support Windows running on the Macs. My question is, who does one turn to if something does happen to go awry?
