This is what it cost in 1985 for text only speed connection to Compuserve. And this was the after hour rates!

I avoided all those services back then. There were several local BBS phone numbers I dialed into regularly so none of that was necessary to a 14-15 year old kid (me) back then.

AABBS on a Commodore 64 was awesome. It was the only BBS software serving color over phone lines (until later on).

It could take two hours to download a 1MB image... at over $12 in cost... only to find out it wasn't what you hoped for!

Today's new users have no idea how great they have it.
. those were the days *dreams*, (I mean the waitng time, not the massive bill shock)

And now we complain when we can't get a video streamed from the other side of the world at light speed on a high-def device that fits in our pockets all at a flat rate.

This brings all kind of bad memories trying (as a soldier at the time) trying to cancel America Online! Bad bad memories!
I am pretty sure you never succeeded in cancelling AOL. It's still active, lurking in the dark, growing its compound rates and late-payment interests, ready to hit with the most insane bill accompanied by AOL's army of lawyers when you least expect it.
