iPhone 1Blocker adds a firewall to the app which does more than Apple

I just updated 1Blocker on iOS and noticed that it now has a firewall (in beta). For those looking to stymy trackers even more, take a look.

I know. I read that as well and understand the difference. The point is it does more than what Apple just introduced, not that I don't like and appreciate what Apple has done.

If no one else has an interest in it, that is fine. I am glad for the update just the same.

I’m not privy to the technical details, but they claim all filtering is on-device, similar to how their traditional Safari integration feeds rules for Safari to do the filtering. The Firewall feature is similar, except they do the work, running requests against their list of known tracking servers and blocking those that match.

What makes our approach different is that 1Blocker performs all the blocking on your device only and doesn’t collect any of your data. Your internet traffic is not routed through any servers. That makes our solution super fast, and you won’t notice any slowdowns.

Firewall runs in a network extension on iOS and acts as a local proxy or gateway between you and the internet. When it sees a request is being sent to a block-listed host, the extension just drops the connection. Other requests stay untouched and work just like before.
