Hey why don't you try and use bookmarks and don't open as many tabs. BTW this is coming from someone who is typing on their MacBook Pro with no less than 30 tabs open, sure its got more RAM but I recognize I have a problem! So work on yours....

Why is there someone that always has to make every thread a "vs Android" thread?

Is that a valid argument now? Find another device that exhibits the same crappy behavior to exonerate the device in question.

Pretty much. People love to be rebels...too many people feel the need to be a special fricken snowflake one way or another.

I realized that my data overages are mostly due to tab reloading in Safari (on both my iPhone 5 and iPad Mini). I'm on a 5GB/mo. plan, but consistently go over the limit by 3-5GB each month. Tabs reload almost all the time, and I use them a lot.

So, I'm paying somewhere around $500 extra every year "thanks" to Apple putting in a measly 1GB of RAM.

Does anyone else smell conspiracy here?! That's hundreds of millions, if not billions, of our hard earned $$, landing in the pockets of some people in the know at Apple and cell companies.

Only if Apple owned the cell carrier.

Stop looking at porn on your phone

Tabs using up 3-5GB of data each month? What next? Your phone bent whilst charging?

This forum has long since descended into idiocracy…

OP, maybe you should use a computer instead based on the usage you've described.

Or, read your article THEN scroll up and open a new tab.

Or, instead of opening in a tab... click add to reading list. Then it won't load the tab but put it in a list.

It's a phone. You seem to be expecting too much out of it in my humble opinion.

This ! Definitely ...

Are you one of the people at Apple who's responsible for 1GB RAM? Because that would be a natural response.

You must be from that conspiracy ring, too. :D

Why should *I* spend more money if *I* really consume 4-5GB of data (within my plan), the rest 4-5GB is consumed, essentially, by Apple due to inadequate specs???

It's well documented how much RAM iDevices have and you bought one regardless. Whilst I would love more RAM, you are deluded if you think Apple is in any way to blame for your reckless data consumption.

This is just another of those "blame someone else" threads.

Another person with a sense of entitlement, that think someone else should foot the bill, the OP would fit in well in the UK, we've got shedloads like that unfortunately.

Ironically, second time I'm typing this because safari crashed and I had to reload everything!

Anyway..long post..

I'd like to see a screenshot of OP's Safari usage to back up the claim. Posts like this need backing up. Nothing against you OP, but so many wild claims get made, that people start to doubt.

I personally think it's a very valid claim.
My safari usage so far in the 2 weeks of owning my iPhone 6, is 397mb. I haven't used it much, because at work I use my laptop, at home I use my iPad. If my iPad Air was using my mobile data when browsing, I'd be as concerned as OP due to tab reload on that.

According this this site:
http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/average-web-page/
Average size of the top 100 websites, is 1612kb.
The top 1000 is 1622kb, and top 300,000 is 1829kb.

Now assuming you only browse those top 100, 5gb data (5,242,880kb) in a month, would be 3,252 page views.
Divide that by 30, gives an average of 108 page views per day.
That's not a lot if Safari is your main used app, and accounting for reloads.
If I browse Facebook, I may jump to about 4 different pages in one session. Be that articles, statuses, or other people's profiles. I tend to view one at a time though, then resume scrolling through the newsfeed.

If I was reading an article, I'd load a link in the background so I don't lose track in the article. I'd then go to read the pages I opened in the background.

So if safari is reloading at 4 tabs, that 108 page views can actually be only ~30 accounting for reloads. That's only 4-5 articles with "research" and a couple of Facebook browses.
OP shouldn't have to change their browsing habits to account for poor handling of ram (or lack of it, if you wish to take that path).
Especially when companies advertise data allowances in terms of "### web pages" and "### emails".

My only suggestion is also a workaround, using another browser. Which we shouldn't have to do.
Also worth trying the "reset all settings" once in a while, which has sometimes helped clear up tab reloads for me on my iPad Air (until the issue comes back again).

TL;DR
5gb browsing top 100 websites (at 1612kb a go, average), is 108 page views a day. ~30 accounting for tab reloads.

OP, why haven't you posted a screens hot of your safari data usage yet? Post the entire list so we can see what's using up all your data.

Really? You think tab reloads are causing you to go 3-5GBs over the standard 5GB plan? I have 4 iPhones on a 10GB plan, and we've gone over a total of 3 times and that was when we were all traveling and taking pictures, which were then synced to several services.

You need to take a look at what else you are doing that would cause that kind of data overage, because I find it hard to believe that it's just tab reloads.

[1GB RAM/Tab Reloading/Data Overage]-GATE

Op is trolling...

Had several android phones this past year... Tabs reload in chrome on android as well.

Because people complain about the 1GB "issue" and say that it's not enough. But even the top anroid handsets with 2 and more GB of RAM reload the browser tabs. because browsers aren't very memory efficient and it has nothing to do with the 1GB memory of the iphone.
