And for this very reason, I will not store my vault on 1Password's or anyone else's cloud. I don't care how secure they claim it is. Nor do I care how secure they claim their vault is. There is always a chance that they messed up something and it will be discovered eventually.

I am sticking with 1Password 7 until it no longer works. When that happens, I'll find another local vault password manager and use that.

Does version 7 still work on M1 Macs? Do browser extensions for it still work without issue?

Oh my god, they moved to Electron!

first, they moved to a subscription model, then removed local vaults, and now the app is no longer native! I mean why do I bother using 1Password anymore?

I won't renew my subscription

Without the password, that data stolen by the attackers is useless. The system is actually working here. Unless you chose a weak or easily guessable password, the data it's safe. The computing power required to crack that is enormous and the cost for said computing power exceeds the value of extracting the passwords greatly. And no, I do not work for LastPass nor am I a customer.

Maybe so but them not having access to my vault at all is of greater reassurance to me than their supposed inability to crack my password database.

I consider that to be the last defense, when all else has failed. And then, I can only pray that there are zero errors in the coding of the password database's security.

I am also using the last 1Password that runs on my iMac (and still is functional on all of my iOS devices) and which stores all of my passwords on my computer and uses Dropbox as a connector. I think this is relatively safe(r) than their latest requirement to store everything in their cloud. I also really dislike the subscription fees. I'd much rather purchase software and upgrade when I want to do so. I don't trust an ever-changing software when it is something I need to depend on to store a password vault to everything I use.

My worry is what to replace 1Password with when I have to upgrade to a new computer (my iMac is from 2015, so the date is coming soon; I have been hoping for a new m-chip large 27-iMac, but it looks like that won't be happening in the next year, and I can't wait any longer to upgrade!). I doubt my old 3.8 version of 1Password will run on the latest MacOS.

That is at least good to know, because the theft is frightening for all cloud users. At least, it really bothers me, even though I don't use LastPass. I do use 1Password, and my worry is their security, especially since I would think they're a great target for criminals due to the nature of their business.
