AgileBits today released a new version of popular password management app 1Password, with the updated Mac software now able to run natively on Apple's M1 Macs.

Version 7.8 of the 1Password app adds native support for Apple silicon, which is something AgileBits has been working on since Apple first debuted its newest machines. M1 support has previously been available in the beta version of 1Password.
Greetings and salutations, everyone! We've been hard at work on a bucketload of fixes and improvements to everyone's favorite password manager in between episodes of WandaVision, The Rookie, and Ted Lasso. Additionally, in what will surely be the year of Apple Silicon, we are excited to announce that 1Password now runs natively on Apple's latest processors and hardware. We've been unbelievably impressed at the speed and efficiency of the new Apple Silicon Macs and can't wait to see what form factors roll out next. (Fingers crossed for that new 16-inch MacBook Pro!)
According to the release notes for the 7.8 update, the new software also includes multiple bug fixes and performance optimizations.

1Password 7.8 can be downloaded from the 1Password website at the current time, but it is not yet available in the Mac App Store.

Cool! It was one of the last mainstream app without support for Apple Silicon that I use daily. Another one being my company's Citrix VPN and VMWare Horizon software. But both of them run very well on Rosetta 2.

The Architecture field in Activity Monitor has gone from 95% Intel vs 5% Apple to 85% Apple vs. 15% Intel now.

Since lastpass will soon require a subscription if you want to use on both mobile and desktop, I'll have to check this out

Or, maybe I'll just go with bitwarden:

1Password is The Gold Standard of encryption when it comes to passwords for every site you ever visit. The Best!
I have their previous version. I paid for the license. I like to store my vault in my own system. But with the family getting bigger it’s not a bad idea to share vault password. I’m just a bit concerned with have 1Password holding my vault.

I use to use Lastpass cause it was free, but yeah, since that is now gone I tried 1Password. They kindly gave me 1 year free.

Side question< Can you use 1Password in offline mode only?
I don't believe 1Password can do that but, Strongbox can.

Bug (iOS): Can't change app icon to dark one in settings. It doesn't stick, and stays as light one on home screen, whilst dark one shows as selected in app settings. 😕

This a great app I have used for years and it just gets better. Why does everyone expect great software for free? If you can afford a Mac, you sure as hell can afford to pay for sensibly priced software. $2.99 a month and $4.99 for families is hardly onerous!
I don't expect free software. However, if I can pay a one-time fee and get the same features that I was getting with 1Password, I will pay the one-time fee.

1Password. One of my all time favorite apps. I purchased for 3 platforms. Then they went subscription model and now only iOS works as it did before. Upgrading to the latest (merely 4 months they updated from the version I purchased) rendered many features I had previously useless. Unfortunate and I get the sub model is probably better for them. I could use the older version, I know.

Now using Bitwarden and haven’t looked back. Runs great on my platforms. I’ve donated to them and run my own local BW vault.
