AgileBits today updated its 1Password app for iOS to version 5.1, adding support for the larger-screened iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With native support for the two new devices, the app is no longer zoomed in and is now able to display more information on the screen.

Along with built-in support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, 1Password has also been updated with improved Touch ID and PIN functionality. Before the update, it was unclear why the Master Password would often be requested when Touch ID integration was enabled, but the Auto-Lock settings have now been retuned to remove confusion.

The app has gained a new setting that allows users to disable third-party keyboards within 1Password to keep passwords more secure, and several bug fixes have been implemented.
- The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are out. Were you one of the lucky millions who got one already? 1Password 5.1 has been updated to give you a beautiful experience on these new devices with 3x images and improved rich icons.

- Touch ID and the PIN Code have been significantly improved. The Auto-Lock timeout will now function across both the Master Password and Touch ID/PIN Code, removing the confusion the separate settings caused. The iOS Keychain will be used to store the Master Password when Touch ID/PIN Code is enabled, allowing Touch ID/PIN Code to be used reliably in the 1Password Extension. Configure what works best for you in Settings->Security.

- Tag you're it. You can now add brand new tags to your items.

- Customer keyboard preference. Choose to enable or disable 3rd party custom keyboards within the Advanced Settings.

- Many fixes for the most popular issues and crashes
1Password can be downloaded from the App Store for free, with the app's full functionality unlockable through a $9.99 in-app purchase. [Direct Link]

Much improved wording on the security settings page. It was so confusing before.

I really enjoy 1Password. The Touch ID integration has been solid. The non paid version is adequate and allows syncing unlike other password apps.

Lastpass is much better. https://lastpass.com

Do you have any objective reasons or is this basically, "I like Pepsi more."

I too prefer Lastpass, because of the price and because I like their chrome/safari extension UI better.

MacRumors.com has a boner for 1Password for some reason. This one app seems to get more articles than any other. Are they a sponsor or something?

It does. When you become a Premium member. $12/year.

Sync yes. Wifi sync no.

AgileBits does not store your data on our servers. What the user was previously saying is that your data can stay on your devices and sync locally via wifi, bypassing the need to store your data in a cloud storage solution. It's a personal preference, we can do both. For those that are cloud adverse you have the option of wifi sync, which will be getting even more awesome in the next Mac update (free update for all existing Mac users).

 Thanks for the kind words, we appreciate it!

Sorry to hear they were confusing before, but we agree and hopefully it's easier to understand now :) We're listening to feedback and doing our best to improve things, keep the feedback coming.

We are not a sponsor. Perhaps the writers just use and enjoy 1Password?

1Password has time behind them. They're trusted by many and I would not simply use another password app that seems to be mostly promoted by new members. The iPhone 6 is my first TouchID device and I love not having to type in my 15 character password each time.

Looks really nice optimised on the 6 Plus.

I'm still really disappointed at the speed of apps been updated for the bigger screens.

Saying that, Gmail was updated today... it'd just be nice to get Facebook & Instagram updated. :)

You may have to delete the app and reinstall to get the 5.1 update. I could see the update in the App Store but it seemed to think I already had it even though I was still on 5.0.1. Removing and reinstalling resolved the issue.

Same case holds true for anyone that has purchased the app but doesn't have the pro features showing and clicking "Restore purchase" didn't work. Simply delete and reinstall and you'll be set.

Thanks! I am sorry it took so long to get updated, but, as with all things we didn't get our hands on the devices until the day they became available to the general public. We also had a lot of other things we wanted to try to improve in the same update which meant delaying the update long enough to get those included. No one likes updating their apps once a week, so we tried to be conscious of that and get as much into one update as we could.

Just keep in mind that there are often other factors involved. All developers wish they could send out daily updates if they could but you have to find a happy middle ground that doesn't annoy users ... in both directions :) Some want frequent updates, others want less frequent updates.

Hey, thanks a ton for this. We try our best to be as transparent as possible and we're glad to hear that our users feel we're trustworthy. It really means a lot. :)

Restore purchases only works if you purchased the in-app purchase, if you are getting pro features from purchasing version 4 then a reinstall should also fix it. However, I believe we had found an issue with that and it's fixed in the update today. We had situations where the receipt wasn't on the device when installed via iTunes, we now request a new receipt in these cases which should let us unlock Pro features even when installed via iTunes now.

Great! It was so frusterating how 1password would only prompt me for touch ID 1/10 times I used it. Hopefully that issue will be resolved.

Yea, sorry about that! We had a minor mistake in the implementation that cause some issues. I've been using the beta (what the release today was based on) since I got my iPhone 6 and haven't seen any issues with TouchID. If you see any let us know though!

In the MAS under purchases, (Yosemite) it says there is an update for 1Password 4.4.2 but there is nothing showing in the update section. Clicked on the app and then clicked update but nothing appears to be happening.

Edited to add: 30 minutes later and it finally shows in the update section or download. MAS must have been slow getting it over.

Sure, but this speaks pretty low of their work product. Writers are certainly allowed to speak highly of the products they use and enjoy. They can even write arguably pointless stories discussing a .1 app revision which does little more than adjust resolution and squash bugs. However, when they do this to the same app over and over again, ignoring many other good and worthwhile apps and developers (including many outside the password management realm), it seems either like backroom favoritism or laziness.

Of course, LastPass stores on its servers nothing but a bunch of encrypted gobbledygook. Without the master password, nothing short of a massive computer form would ever make sense of that data, so really the LastPass stuff is quite secure.

How secure? LastPass can't break into it and they are storing it.

I'm not saying WiFi syncing isn't a feature, but it sure seems like one most people would never think twice about considering important.
