1st gen 24" iMac locks during load

My first gen iMac will not boot OSX, XP, or even start from the leopard install disk. Any ideas out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Swapped ram no change

How far does it get?
Are you using the original RAM that came with it?

hangs at the grey screen with apple logo, after the little progress grafic is going, system starts in single user mode, not that does anything for me

Just ran file system check, it says the HD appears to be ok


Original ram from apple 2gb

got the apple hardware test to run, it reported no errors on extended testing, still can't boot into anything

Will a Apple store work on my iMac if its out of warranty and no applecare?

Yes, you can definitely take it in to be repaired there.
