Apropos of nothing, just 2 days ago, I retrieved my 160GB ATV1 from it's original packaging where it had been for at least 3 years. When I first tried to sync w/ iTunes (v.12.6, I think?), no joy. It gave me no sidebar listing various media types. I just kinda shrugged & said "screw it, I'll just stream."
For whatever reason, I decided to restore to factory, and voila!! It let me sync in iTunes 12 just like it did years ago (I updated ATV1 OS to newest version earlier tonight, zero issues w/ syncing). I love being able to store media on the device. Thinking of jailbreaking, but don't want to spend $$ for a patch stick, and don't feel like spending too much time on chasing down free options. I'll just enjoy using it in stock trim (it works great for me as a music transport...using optical out to a hi-fi setup).
Anyway, just sharing my rediscovery of this silver box, hahahaha.
