What cable should I get to use a 1st gen ipod on any recent computer (USB)? Is it a firewire 400 to usb cable? Thanks.

MacBook Pro. Just wondering how to sync a 1st gen iPod with a recent Mac that doesn’t have FireWire...?

Man, I haven't got a clue. You may have to find an older computer with FW800 (the last version of FW to exist, I believe) and find some adapters.

I have a second- or third-gen iPod (the one with the row of four touch buttons) and I never figured out what to do with it once I gave away my last FireWire-capable Mac.

Searching on Stack Exchange found me this:
https://superuser.com/questions/306437/converting-firewire-to-usb-3-is-it-theoretically-possible

... which led me to this:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD464LL/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapter

So maybe there's hope.
