Check the audio setup in Settings. I’ve had issues where macOS decides that it wants to route my audio (and mic) through my closed MBPro rather than through the attached ASD
Already did. The Dell is selected but the volume adjustment disabled.

1. The ASD is DP via USB-C, there is no HDMI port. Just a Thunderbolt 3+ cable from laptop to monitor.
2. If you dislike/require more than 60Hz avoid the ASD (totally fine: I have the ASD on my Mac where I photo edit and I never notice the refresh rate. I have a 144Hz display for my gaming PC because that 60Hz was unpleasant to my eyes)
3. I bought mine because I failed to achieve a pleasant method for using my 2014 iMac 5K as an external display. The only issue I truly have with it is that I’ve outgrown 27” as a display size. I’ve survived… I also bought mine because the only competition for a screen of such quality has been the LG UltraFine series (where I dislike all other elements: the chintzy plastics, the bizarre bezel dimensions, the absence of a webcam [YMMV: I buy other monitors because they don’t have webcams]) and the upcoming competition from a few others (can’t buy what‘s not available and I needed a monitor ASAP)
I bought ASD two days ago.But I think I will return it for Dell U2723QE. I am using scaled option UI for ASD because the default 1440 is too small for my eyes, so I think 4k is enough for me and I should not spend so much for monitor that is not perfect.
Sound is okay but my two HomePod Minis next to it sounds little bit better.

The same is true on my Viewsonic Thunderbolt to DisplayPort interface. In order to control volume on the monitor speakers I am forced to use the controls on the monitor, the MACOS volume adjustment in setting is greyed out. There is no work around other than to use external speakers. I chose inexpensive USB-C Creative Pebble 3 and then the MACOS volume settings work correctly.

Software controls are far less relable than hardware controls. Why not get a moniter with it's own built-in brightness control, and the like?

Agreed, once you tweak the settings and volume you probably don't need to mess with them again, however volume setting is troublesome as I change it a lot making the use of external speakers much more convenient.

Like I said before download the Lunar app. It should let you control the brightness and volume keys of your monitor.

With macOS it's a crapshoot whether or not a non-Apple monitor works that way out of the box.

It's not controlling the brightness via software, exactly. It's using software to control the monitor's hardware brightness control.

With macOS and third-party monitors, sometimes an additional piece of software is required to enable this function.

I use MonitorControl. Seems to work well.

Good morning guys, installed my new Dell S2722QC. The connection is via ThunderBolt Type-C. I'm using at 2K resolution because I find it's the best balance. In 4K resolution everything is tiny and can't see them.
Although again I have the same issue with monitor's speakers and volume adjustment. I can hear the sounds/music through them but only at max sound level and can't adjust the volume at all.
I thought I wouldn't have this issue with ThunderBolt.
Any suggestion please?
What is the resolution UI for biggest text on this Dell?

Should I enable the VRR?
